Vice President for Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement

Framingham State University

Framingham, Massachusetts

Framingham State University (FSU) seeks an exceptional leader for consideration as a candidate for Vice President for Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement (DICE).

Reporting directly to newly appointed President Nancy Niemi, the Vice President for DICE is a member of FSU's executive staff and cabinet. As FSU's senior diversity, equity and inclusion officer, the vice president will play a central role in institutional decisions and provide leadership to university-wide efforts to uphold FSU's commitment to becoming an anti-racist institution and to advance inclusive excellence while building on FSU's strong history and trajectory.

Founded in 1839 by education reformer Horace Mann, FSU is the nation's oldest public university founded for the education of teachers and has been providing students with access to an excellent, affordable education for more than 180 years. Today, FSU is a comprehensive liberal arts institution with more than 4,400 undergraduate, graduate and professional students, 226 full-time faculty, 62 degree programs in the arts, humanities, sciences, social sciences and professional fields, and an operating budget of $125 million. FSU is known for empowering student success by providing superior education, engaged research and innovation opportunities, and a strong first-year experience. More information about Framingham State can be found at www.framingham.edu.

Located just 20 miles outside of Boston on a picturesque New England campus in the vibrant MetroWest economic corridor, FSU prides itself on being an inclusive, close-knit community. Framingham State's faculty are renowned scholars who integrate an academically challenging liberal arts education with excellent programs within the arts and humanities, behavioral and social sciences, business, education, STEM, and other professional fields. The diverse student body is made up of hardworking students, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college. Home to a dedicated staff and strong alumni engagement, FSU's commitment to inclusive excellence and anti-racism touch every aspect of the University's operations.

Framingham State University seeks in its next vice president a visionary leader, experienced administrator, and vocal champion of diversity and inclusion. The vice president will work collaboratively across the institution to ensure continued support to the university community as well as the Metro West and greater Commonwealth while modeling an inclusive environment that welcomes and leverages diversity in all its forms. The vice president will provide vision, leadership, management, counsel and strategic planning to the office of DICE as well as the entire university, to enhance the learning, living and working community of all campus members.

The ideal candidate will be deeply student-centered, drawing inspiration from the promise of a Framingham State education and the transformative experience FSU offers its students. Candidates must also be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience developing a compelling, actionable, and overarching vision for diversity, equity and inclusion;
  • Experience building programs within institutional cultural frameworks in an educational landscape;
  • An authentic, open, inclusive, and collaborative communication style;
  • Capacity to understand and respect the FSU mission and culture.

Required Qualifications:

  • A master's degree and knowledge of national best practices and theory about organizational diversity and inclusion, human development, training and change management. An earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • The experience and readiness to assume a substantial, senior-level higher education administrative role.
