Responsibilities

We have an immediate need for a Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer for Wellstar Paulding Hospital.

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) reports to the Senior Vice President and Hospital President for the development, includes strategic planning, financial management, quality, integration of patient services practices, policies, and procedures.

The CNO provides executive leadership for Patient and Staff Safety; the development of and implementation of innovative and responsive care delivery systems that achieve excellence in patient care. This leadership position must maintain knowledge of current and trending nursing practice and the roles and functions of all members of the health care team which often also reports to this role. This leader is accountable to articulate and ensure compliance with the Georgia State Nursing Practice Act; State Board of Nursing Regulation, The Joint Commission, regulatory and accreditation standards.

As a member of the executive team, this leader is responsible for ensuring that all regulatory laws that govern the health care institution are upheld and represents patient care issues at the highest level of the institution. The allocation of resources to ensure safe, quality patient care ultimately rests with this leader as does the monitoring of activities to ensure that the practice environment is conducted in a safe and trusting setting. At WellStar Health System CNOs must support a shared governance structure to promote professional nursing practice and support WHS Nursing's Nursing Professional Practice Model.

This nurse leader ensure competence of the nursing work force in providing care that respects diversity of all kinds (e.g. ethnicity, age, gender) and provides patient care that is population specific and culturally competent. Additional responsibilities include achieving quality outcomes and customer satisfaction in a fiscally responsible manner through deploying Lean Six Sigma thinking and methods.

The Chief Nursing Officer will collaborate with other system leadership and medical staff within the organization. Other responsibilities include assimilation, analysis and communication of data. The Chief Nursing Officer is accountable for the achievement of objectives consistent with the Health System's mission, values, and operational and strategic plans.
Qualifications

Required Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree and Master's degree from accredited school.
  • At least one degree must be in nursing.
Required Minimum Licensure/Certification:
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Georgia or hold a privilege to practice in the State of Georgia under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) Registered Nurse on the first day of employment in role.
  • National certification in nursing administration or clinical specialty preferred (e.g. Nursing Administration, ACHE)
Required Minimum Experience:
  • Ten (10) years of demonstrated progression in management/leadership experience in a hospital or health system required.
  • Demonstrated success as a CNO in a fast-paced, growing, and competitive market.
  • Includes direct management of large departments or multiple departments, including strategic and financial planning.
  • Experience in a multi-hospital system environment and multiple markets environment is preferred.
Required Minimum Skills:
  • Should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and relationship building.
  • Commitment to patient care excellence in healthcare and has a proven track record of success.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership capabilities.
  • Sound performance management skills and experience with an emphasis on change and the ability to develop consensus from independent parties to achieve the goals of the health system.
  • Evidence of strong physician and executive collaborative initiatives required.
  • Knowledge of strategic and financial planning and management.
  • Experience in working with the system-wide direction of patient care activities.
  • Commitment to the advancement of nursing practice and the nursing profession.
  • High degree of initiative, is self-directed and independent, and welcomes ideas and input of others.
  • Adept at follow-through.
  • Knowledge of risk management and various accreditation/regulations/licensing requirements assuring that these are upheld while advancing industry standards through the achievement of goals by effective management and measurement of outcomes.
  • This professional should be active in the profession, member of a professional organization and attends state and national conferences to keep up with the advances in nursing administration and practice of nursing.
