Overview

The VAS Production & Shipping Supervisor will be responsible for leading Alternative Apparel's Finishing Team, which handles special fulfillment requirements, including picking, folding, poly-bagging, hang-tagging, labeling, packing, and shipping orders.

Working closely with the Sr. Manager of DC, the VAS Production & Shipping Supervisor will ensure that Alternative's finishing team will consistently be able to deliver an exceptional level of service to Alternative's most important retail customers. Furthermore, the VAS Production & Shipping Supervisor will hold ultimate accountability for ensuring that orders are properly picked, staged, and shipped correctly and on time. The VAS Production & Shipping Supervisor will also act as a catalyst for change, initiating recommendations for process improvement, documentation requirements, training, mentoring, team-building, and evaluating other employees.

Responsibilities

  • Motivate, direct and formally evaluate team members. Participate in hiring, promoting, discipline, and evaluation of resources when needed.
  • Coach and develop finishing staff. Present overall staffing recommendations for the finishing group as business needs change.
  • Initiate ideas for better documentation methods and filing requirements related to finishing, EDI, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Supervise overall finishing processes based on introduction of new customers and changes in existing customer orders. Make recommendations for process, people, and technology changes.
  • Formally track individual and team production. Set metrics and goals at an individual and team level for each finishing process, track results, and report results to Logistics Manager on a frequent basis.
  • Forecast staffing needs based on production relative to staffing. Present recommendations to management.
  • Maintain production schedule for finishing projects. Assess suitability of service lead times for all special services and communicate those to internal and external customers.
  • Maintain itemized list of special services and distribute to sales force. Track internal costs and compare costs to industry standard costs.
  • Act as an expert resource for each customer's routing and vendor compliance. Document 'cheat sheets' for each new customer that Alternative adds and work closely with vendors to initiate process improvements based on chargebacks.
  • Work closely with the Customer Experience team to act as a catalyst for continuous improvement, particularly as it pertains to knowledge gaps and duplication of work.
  • Use finishing results at a team and individual level as a catalyst for systematic finishing process improvement. Make recommendations for ways of modifying folding, hang tagging, poly-bagging, special services, and order documentation processes to improve the team's efficiency, accuracy, and overall results.
  • Act as point person when customers need information on order status, backorder information, fulfillment mistakes, or any general information regarding the state of an order or item.
  • Use finishing fulfillment errors as a way to drive process improvement and as a coaching opportunity, as needed.
  • Find new ways to maximize the use of equipment, technology and direct resources to accomplish process improvements.
  • Keep Finishing area clean at all costs, including disposal of obsolete merchandise that is consuming warehouse real estate.
  • Create systems and areas dedicated to control work in various stages of process: stock checks, over stock, investigations, backorders, pending orders, etc.
  • Hold all Alternative employees accountable for their role in finishing processes. Create systems when you see patterns of failure.

Qualifications

Experience in apparel garment finishing is ideal, however other candidates will be considered. People with experience in production scheduling in a manufacturing and/or operations environment are highly encouraged to apply.
