Staff Software Engineer - Front End

Division Summary

Walmart Global Tech is the technical powerhouse behind Walmart Global eCommerce. We employ big data at scale -- from machine learning, data mining and optimization algorithms, to modeling and analyzing massive flows of data from online, social, mobile, and offline commerce. We don't just engineer cool websites, mobile apps, and new services; we use our own open-source tools to create the framework. Deployment is automated and accelerated through our open cloud platform. Position Summary

As part of the JavaScript platform team in the Walmart Global Tech org, you'll work with our internal and open-source projects to build tools and libraries that bring the latest and greatest technology of the JavaScript community to the Walmart global developers. You will be in the unique position to work with every aspect of an enterprise large scale system. If you are passionate about everything JavaScript, has a strong sense of ownership, has a love for how things work under the hood, enjoys tinkering with the internals of software, has a strong desire for code quality and performance, loves helping others accelerate their development - then our Staff Software Engineer in the JavaScript platform team could be for you. The ideal candidate will be a guru with everything JavaScript as well as a passion for what makes complex and large-scale enterprise system work.

Job Responsibilities

  • You are highly fluent in JavaScript and TypeScript with deep understanding of async programming, closures, ES6, etc.

  • You are well versed with node.js, and tools and frameworks like npm, React, Redux, webpack, and fastify, express, and Hapi.js

  • You are knowledgeable with HTML, CSS, and web development, including concepts like layout, browser compatibility and accessibility.

  • You have a strong background in web technologies with intimate understanding of the HTTP/HTTPS protocol, service-oriented architectures, REST APIs, GraphQL, the Web - curity standards, etc.

  • You are knowledgeable about Operating System concepts like networking, file system, IPC, process, and memory management, etc.

  • You have work experience with persistence DB layers, and caching layers like memcache, redis, etc.

  • Experience with unit testing frameworks like Jest, Mocha & Chai

  • You are familiar with design patterns, data structures, and algorithms

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure preferably Azure, GCP

  • You have strong communication skills and can collaborate with multiple teams

You'll make an impact by…

  • Striving to constantly raising the bar in code and document quality

  • You will maintain, update, improve, and create core modules and documentation as part of the web platform team at Walmart.

  • You will work with all Walmart teams who use Electrode and debug typically very hard issues with them.

  • You will collaborate with other teams to understand requirements and problems, and then propose and implement solutions.

  • You will write technical and design documents and review them with multiple teams to validate their feasibility.

  • You will participate in architecture and design collaborations.

  • You will interact with the Electrode Native team to collaborate on any module that has connection with them.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field

  • 8+ years of experience in IT industry

  • 8+ years in building software in JavaScript

  • 2+ years' experience working with TypeScript

  • Experience with Kubernetes and docker a huge plus

  • Experience with build systems, database, and backend services

Good to have

  • Open-Source projects/contributions

  • Experience with GraphQL and React Native

  • Knowledge/experience with Ansible, Kubernetes, and Docker

  • Working experience with other languages and scripts such as Java, Python, and Bash Scripts
