The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services at the Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center in Kearney is seeking a Unit Manager to oversee all aspects of staffing, treatment and compliance on the Lincoln Living Unit.

Examples of Work

The Unit Manager of the Lincoln Living Unit has an integral role in maintaining a positive and therapeutic treatment environment in the Living Unit. As a Unit Manager you will:

• Supervise Youth Security Specialists II's (YSSII) who maintain control of the youth located at our facility as direct care staff, and Youth Counselors (YC) who provide case management and oversee treatment planning in each cottage.

• Ensure Youth Security Specialists, Youth Security Supervisors and Youth Counselors work collaboratively to provide quality services to the youth.

• Assure the fidelity of treatment and programming is upheld.

• Manage the operations of a Living Unit assigning, directing and evaluating the work of Youth Program Specialists and Youth Case Managers including scheduling, performance management, recruitment, training and development of staff.

• Oversee treatment services for youth assigned to the Unit ensuring security, health and safety needs are met.

• Serve as an objective advocate party when issues arise in a youth's program whether it be from treatment, or discharge plans. Serve as a liaison and advocate for the youth with stakeholders and third party entities.

• Ensure compliance standards are maintained on the Living Unit.

• Communicate with Facility Administration regarding process improvement strategies to promote YRTC services.

• Includes rotating On-Call schedule, and availability to assist and resolve problems as needed for all shifts.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, behavioral sciences, human services or a related field AND two years' related experience, such as providing patient or youth care, or rehabilitation /treatment services in a residential setting, treatment, or correctional program. Experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis.

PREFERRED: Previous experience working in 24 hour youth treatment facility strongly preferred for two years' related experience and/or substitute experience.

OTHER: Valid driver's license

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with availability to assist and solve problems during the evening and overnight shift as needed. Rotating On-Call schedule for weekends and holidays.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: Candidate will have excellent communication. Organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to be proactive and 'think out of the box' to identify process improvement opportunities. Ability to work independently as well as on a team and with confidential information; learn application labor contracts, rules/regulations, DHHS policies and procedures to provide information to employees, supervisors and the general public.

Skilled in project management and simultaneously working with details and big picture ideas.Must be reliable, responsible and dependable to job obligations with a willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges.

Knowledge of: the principles and techniques of supervision; the principles and practices of treatment and guidance of rehabilitating delinquent youth; crisis intervention techniques and procedures; good counseling techniques as they relate to facility treatment modality; human behavior, attitudes and motivation; agency and facility policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
