The department of Patient Experience has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Patient Courier to work at UHealth. The Patient Transporter (U) is responsible for safely, timely, and accurately transporting patients while providing the utmost positive experience. Provides the pivotal first and most lasting impressions while setting the tone that the key concept of patient transportation is the human element. This position reports to the Office of Patient Experience and is held to the highest standards of being friendly, empathic, knowledgeable, well-spoken, and continuously patient-oriented. The Patient Transporter harmonizes the patient transportation experience while working seamlessly with UHealth Tower staff to reduce unnecessary delays to help drive patient satisfaction.

  • The department operates 24/7, providing continuous services.
  • Transfers bodies to the morgue following appropriate protocols.
  • Meets productivity measures and benchmarks set by the hospital which is reported quarterly.
  • Oversees hospital bed management, encompassing tasks such as coordinating bed movements, preparing operating rooms and ambulatory surgery units with the required beds for daily cases, and facilitating the transportation of beds to and from the repair shop.
  • Responsible for efficiently managing the return of rental beds.
  • This involves confirming arrangements with the rental company, transporting the beds to the designated location, and ensuring timely pickup.
  • Conducts rounds to clear hallways of beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers, ensuring that these items are promptly returned to their designated departments.
  • Responsible for transportation for all admissions, discharges, unit transfers, radiation oncology, dialysis, and outpatient areas and clinics.
  • Assists other areas in times of understaffing, providing necessary support to ensure smooth operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA
  • No experience is required. At least 1 year in the patient transport role preferred.
