Position Overview:

The Freight Trader, as a member of the global integrated Aramco Trading network, will have responsibility for freight acquisition, optimization, and price-risk management to meet Aramco Trading objectives. In support of Aramco global trading objectives, the Freight Trader will be integral in the development, implementation, growth, and management of freight optimization across Aramco's global system. This role demands strong commercial acumen and deep understanding of physical and financial instruments to manage/enhance decision-based economics. Additionally, the Freight Trader will draw upon knowledge and understanding of domestic & international freight markets to identify and capture value-added arbitrage opportunities supporting the global oil trading & freight desks which enhance proprietary trading results.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize knowledge of marine logistics optimization and freight markets to enhance Aramco Trading profitability, minimize demurrage and marine costs where possible
  • Identify, develop, implement, and manage freight initiatives in support of oil trading objectives
  • Actively seek and identifies opportunities for value creation (cost savings, cost avoidance, revenue enhancement) and risk reduction
  • Develops credible business case for sourcing time-chartered tonnage, supported by market data, commercial objectivity, and relevant business & technical factors
  • Work closely with relevant traders, providing market information, market trends, scenario comparisons and ongoing ad hoc analysis
  • Utilize market analysis to opportunistically develop and implement value-added freight trading strategies related to relevant oil trading desk
  • Available to support affiliated business units (manufacturing & supply) logistics & freight requirements 24/7/365
  • Subject matter expert on all commercial, operational, and legal matters pertaining to spot and term charter parties; originator and ultimate owner of charter parties with $500M liability coverage
  • Subject matter expert on all marine elements of hydrocarbon deals and related GTCs, providing guidance to contracts, legal, and trading on suggested wording, risks, opportunities, etc
  • Share working knowledge of international & Jones Act freight supply/demand, trading, and logistics with colleagues to encourage dialog on market fundamentals, strengthen understanding of price dynamics and develop forward market perspective
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with freight trading counterparts, third-party suppliers, customers, service providers and internal stakeholders to effectively carry out day to day Supply and Trading responsibilities
Experience and Qualifications Required:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated expertise in chartering/freight trading, contract & charter party management
  • Regional expertise in both US Flag and International Shipping markets
  • Expert level knowledge freight cost estimation methods, freight impacts, and freight risk management
  • Understanding & capability of the freight derivates market and its impacts on the physical markets
  • Minimum 7 years of direct chartering experience across global markets
  • Knowledge and awareness of demurrage exposure management
  • Knowledge and awareness of managing vessel operations and associated marine costs
  • Knowledge and awareness of refining operations
  • Knowledge and awareness of marine assurance and vetting best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to be: motivated, self-starter, innovative, collaborative (build networks and trust), entrepreneurial, forward-thinking, manage complexity, detail oriented and analytical
  • Ability to work in an office environment located in downtown Houston, TX
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience with refinery supply and trading, freight trading/chartering, and commercial shipping management
  • Prior experience at an integrated trading and supply organization
  • Detail understanding of global fundamentals and ability to provide market intelligence
