Job Summary: Reports to General Shop Foreman. The Tool Maintenance Person is responsible for maintenance and storage of tools throughout the facility. This person stocks and organizes the tool room. The job includes helping other workers with a wide range of machine or tool set up and repair, upon demand or as various needs arise. This person repairs or replaces electrical and mechanical parts on equipment. The job includes repairing tools and informing the Office about tools or equipment that cannot be repaired onsite, need replacement parts, and about tool room restocking needs. Possessing good interpersonal skills to interact efficiently with other workers is required. This employee must be resourceful, able to work with minimal supervision as well as ensure timely and cost efficient completion of material stocking and equipment repair or replacement. The job entails having tools and supplies organized and ready to use. Safe work practices are required to prevent electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical hazards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive, store, and organize a variety of tools, equipment, and materials to support manufacturing
  • Manage broken tools and equipment, advising about the best solution such as repair or replacement
  • Organize the tool room and submit order requests to maintain an adequate inventory
  • Assist any production or maintenance worker with machine or tool set up or repair needs as needs arise
  • Clean, inspect and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas throughout the facility to ensure readiness, availability, and compliance with good safety practices
  • Coordinates with General Shop Foreman, Maintenance Lead Person, Purchasing, and Environmental and Safety Manager, to submit restocking requests and to determine new needs
  • Duties performed require the ability to work with mechanical gears, to physically lift no more than fifty pounds, and alternate between standing, walking and sitting.
  • Performs assigned tasks in a safe manner, avoiding unsafe practices
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, a working knowledge of tool room inventory control and knowledge or experience with tool repair or working with mechanical equipment
  • Must read and write in the English language and have good oral communication ability
  • Must be in good physical condition, be able to reach overhead, position self where equipment components can be accessed, climb ladders, and with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) work in a variety of conditions including those which are cold, hot, dirty, dusty, and noisy
  • Requires manual dexterity
  • Must be willing to abide by shop safe work and clean up practices
