This position is responsible for the design, coordination and implementation of specialized production machines, tooling, jigs and fixtures.
Role & Responsibility
Staff Supervision
- Guide and supervise drafting persons on detailing and layouts as well as using Computer Aided Design.
- Supervise and guide Tooling shop personnel, electricians, maintenance personnel (including electronic technicians) during building, assembling and/or modifying of a machine, major jig or fixture.
- Supervise and guide summer interns on designing, detailing and layouts of special mechanisms, jigs or fixtures as well as guide them in the use of Computer Aided Design.
- Key Performance Indicators (KPI): Staff knowledge of Computer Aided Design, knowledge of machines, tooling, jigs and fixtures use.
Project Management
- Design and coordinate the design and implementation of specialized production machines, tooling, jigs and fixtures.
- Plan and organize project schedules, estimate time required and follow-up to meet the schedule. Research, purchase, retrofit, modify and install new and used machines, robots for manufacturing cells and layout new work cells.
- Determine material flow and write up the part routing of the cell or machine operation.
- Write up the capital justifications for equipment or complete manufacturing cells needed for production.
- Guide electrical engineer on the electrical layouts of the machine.
- KPIs: Ensure project schedules continue on time.

- Problem: Fixture must can hold parts as shown on process drawings along with the other parts that may be pre-assembled into this weldment such as axles, sprockets, chains, gearbox, etc.
- Solution: Design allows the weldment to be assembled in two ways.
- Travel requirements to all Company locations and vendors.
