Job Description Summary
This position will report to the Associate Director of Basic Research to support essential technical and operational needs for the Department of Dermatology, including department-level programs such as the NIH-funded Penn Skin Biology and Disease Resource-based Center (SBDRC), its core services, and the Penn Dermatology T32 Training Grant. The position will provide technical expertise and application support to effectively integrate technological resources to streamline services, reporting, communications, and research operations. The incumbent will create and manage REDCap projects
to collect data for the SBDRC, T32, research, grants, and administration projects. They will also work with stakeholders to streamline reporting from REDCap. They will provide training to administrative and research staff in how to effectively utilize the REDCap platform to streamline operations. The Technology Integration Specialist will also work to develop and maintain research-related websites, including those for the SBDRC, T32 Training Grant and individual lab websites. Working directly with SBDRC and T32 leadership and individual faculty for content, this position will liaise with DermIT to
ensure sites are compliant and integrated with the family of dermatology websites. The incumbent will also explore and implement new technological interfaces to support research operations, such as establishing online equipment scheduling capabilities, implementing cloud-based equipment monitoring, working with PMACS/DART to migrate computer-based research equipment to the PSOM network, and coordinating with DermIT to facilitate technological needs of clinical-basic research joint initiatives. The incumbent will be a member of the SBDRC and T32 administrative committees and participate in research faculty meetings, where they will work with leadership to develop and
implement evolving technologies to improve operational workflows.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

1. Provide REDCap expertise to support operations for the basic research, research core, administrative, and finance teams within the Department of Dermatology.

  • Create and maintain instruments of varying complexity, from simple surveys to multifaceted projects such as ordering and billing systems.
  • Set up automatic reports and project dashboards, for data analysis and visualization.
  • Work with the Training Program leadership to implement the flight-tracker a REDCap module designed for managing trainee and faculty progression.
  • Provide training in use of REDCap to all stakeholders in various groups ;train key personal in how to utilize REDCap to generate simple data collection surveys to improve efficiency of recurring data collections (e.g. publications, awards and professional achievements, etc.).


2. Coordinate with DermIT webmaster and researchers to provide WordPress support for departmental, core, and faculty lab websites.
  • Provide technological expertise to create layouts and incorporate content on departmental SBDRC, T32 Training program, and Research labs websites using WordPress.
  • Work with DermIT website administrators to request structural and utility updates necessary to create functional and current webpages.
  • Routinely monitor sites and after system-wide updates to ensure continued
    functionality.


3. Investigate new technological resources and coordinate integration of new platforms and utilities.
  • Support research operational needs that are constantly evolving due to technological advances and require constant maintenance of existing infrastructure and implementation of new hardware and software platforms.
  • Coordinate department-level technology-driven initiatives, including freezer monitoring by a cloud-based system, online scheduling applications for departmental equipment, sample/specimen tracking, electronic laboratory notebooks, and other projects as they arise.
  • Work as a liaison with PMACS/DART to bring departmental and lab equipment up to standards for network configuration and access.
  • Coordinate with DermIT on special projects to use technological resources to improve joint endeavors between the basic research and clinical divisions within the department.
  • As a member of the administrative committees for the SBDRC and T32 Training programs, research and provide expert opinion on new technologies


4. Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

This position is contingent upon funding.
