Description
Technology CoordinatorServes as web administrator, multimedia specialist, instructor and adviser for Student Media; Provides primary leadership and advising for staff members who produce Web publications and advises the Student Media administration and staff in identifying the needs of various users and facilitating the design, installation, modification, user training and support of information systems.

Qualifications
Job Function/Responsibilities:[MEDIA ADMINISTRATION]

  • Advise, mentor and coach student staff members on digital storytelling across multiple platforms, including mobile, smartphone, tablet, web, social media, and print staff on how to best optimize their content for online deployment;
  • Work with the Director of Student Media and student editors to develop an ongoing strategy for multiplatform journalism, including moving toward a continuous news operation online;
  • Assign and prioritize tasks for web and multimedia student staff based on need, deadline, staff availability and budget;
  • Set standards for digital design, and guides development and maintenance of all web products and applications.
[TECHNOLOGY]
  • Oversee technology development for publications in the Office of Student Media;
  • Manages technology and digital equipment in the Office of Student Media, including desktop computers, laptop computers, tablets, smartphones, cameras, recording equipment, and other devices;
  • Provide regular training for student staffers in multimedia journalism, including storytelling techniques across platforms using words, still photography, video, audio, interactive graphics, and other assets;
  • Oversee development, testing and maintenance of web applications;

  • Meet regularly with student and staff representatives to discuss progress and direction of projects
  • Analyzes, researches and implements plans for software and hardware updates and system migrations;
  • Actively pursue knowledge of current technology and publishing trends, especially in web-publishing;
  • Maintain knowledge of campus technology and policy changes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including strong oral, written, and listening communication capabilities;
  • Ability to recruit, train and lead a team of student staff in the provision of services;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills;
  • Ability to manage personnel and fiscal responsibilities;
  • Proficient skills in computing in networked environment;
  • Ability to appropriately apply University policies and procedure;
  • Ability to handle multiple demands in a complex publishing operation.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of and commitment to excellence and ethical standards as an educator and as a professional in communications field;
  • Ability to foster positive student learning and development through student publishing activities;
  • Knowledge of the latest trends in editing software and video equipment.
Required level/type of experience and/or years of experience:
  • Master's Degree
  • 2 yrs experience with professional design software (ie. Adobe Creative Suite, Video editing software, etc.)
Preferred level/type of experience and/or years of experience:
  • Experience growing web, mobile and social media services;
  • Advising experience with students in an environment of editorial independence.
