Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Technician II to join our team at Novelis Global Research and Technology Center in Kennesaw, Georgia. The incumbent will be working in collaboration with other engineering groups to develop leading-edge product and process technologies in current and emerging markets for Novelis Inc. With world-class people and state-of-the-art facilities, the center plays a leading role in developing advanced materials and innovative technologies supporting Novelis customers and manufacturing plants.

The Technician II will be a key contributor to various research and development projects focused on advanced aluminum products for the automotive, transportation, packaging, architectural, consumer electronics and specialty markets. The Technician II will apply specialized knowledge and work experience in the operation of pilot, testing, or prototyping equipment. The incumbent will possess highly specialized knowledge and experience in the operation of specialized machinery and equipment, as well as, provide technical expertise/support to both routine and non-routine processes. The Technician II will be responsible for the quality of assignments with moderate scope and complexity involving an application of significant experience in operation of specialized machinery and equipment.
Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Second operator of the Transformational High Output Research (THOR) Line, which includes production size equipment in an R&D environment
  • Assists in performing breakdown, corrective, renovative and preventive maintenance on THOR Line equipment
  • Possesses basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments and other equipment
  • Collaborate with Project Teams to plan, organize and execute activities on the THOR Line
  • Works under limited supervision where tasks are defined by manager, project leader or senior staff
  • Find opportunities for continuous improvements at the THOR Line and suggest new ideas
  • Leverage the Novelis Systems and Safety Principles to create a zero-injury culture
  • Follow all plant EHS policies, standards and procedures
  • Maintain 5S and housekeeping within the area
  • Assist with writing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs), training records, maintenance documentation, machine history, and verification & calibration of equipment
  • Give and receive feedback openly, honestly and respectfully
  • Maintain a climate of consistency, trust and employee involvement

Qualifications:
  • Entry to this level typically requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, and a high school diploma and/or certification/vocational degree, or equivalent experience
  • Possesses basic knowledge of fabrication or manufacturing equipment and processes
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write and modify standard operating procedures (SOPs). Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or customers
  • Possesses basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, etc.
  • Proficient with micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.
  • Motivated, goal oriented, ethical and challenge driven

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Overhead crane operation experience
  • Welding experience
  • Possesses basic knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, etc. principles
  • Possesses basic knowledge of bearing installation, lubrication, alignment and failure causes
