Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is looking for a Technical Editor to join our team in San Diego for part-time with the option to transition to full-time work.



Responsibilities

• Responsible for formatting and numbering, grammar and spelling, internal technical consistency and continuity of tone, and compliance with internal and external document quality requirements.
• Edit documents ranging from two pages to thousands of pages in length.
• Possess the ability to improve text and figures to communicate concepts more effectively to the document's specific audience.
• Manage multiple and often conflicting deadlines. Must take initiative and manage own schedule.
• Possess expert abilities in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, and Adobe PDF.
• Determine suitability of material for target audience with consideration for organization, presentation, word use, illustrations, comprehensibility, completeness and correctness, and company and project standards and guidelines.
• Work with project team members directly, from planning stage to completion, on project requirements, schedules, information requirements, quality standards and guidelines, and client feedback.
• Work with management to improve company quality standards and guidelines by providing feedback on projects (lessons learned) and industry best practices.
• Learn terminology and usage conventions of widely varied environmental science and engineering projects.

Skills / Qualifications

• University or College Degree in Liberal Arts-Communications (technical communications or English are preferred).
• 2+ years of experience in the field of technical communications, preferably in a professional services environment. More experience is preferred.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; high level of proficiency in written communication.
• Science or engineering coursework or experience (preferred).
