General Description of the position

Collaborate with architects and engineering staff to prepare technical and deployment standards documents. Additionally, you’ll develop and promote the adoption of documentation templates for system, database, and program information. This role will function as a primary writer—responsible for deliverables of substantial scope and complexity.

Responsible for generating innovative ideas for content while working both independently and as part of a team of architects. The position researches products, services, technology or concepts to be documented and easily understood by a broad audience.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Prepare, review, revise, and maintain standards documents, including IP/Core Network, Enterprise and Applications, Access Platforms, Outside Plant and Colocation Deployment, Voice services, and products and solutions
  • Gather and analyze technical and product information from various sources to document new or changing network or product functionality
  • Write, format, edit, review, and proof standards and deployment information for technical users
  • Maintain a library of standards documentation, cataloging it for engineering and deployment teams
  • Publish and maintain templates for written documentation produced by others (technical specifications, RFP responses, etc.), ensuring a consistent "look and feel"
  • Generate innovative ideas for content and workflow solutions. Use visual models and tools to clearly communicate workflows, communications, relations, and system operations
  • Analyze information required for the development or update of policy, procedure and form documentation
  • Review and/or copyedit content developed by other members of the team
  • Partake in the tasks of understanding systems, how they interact with each other, their capabilities, architecture, and structures, to then dive deeper into creating, editing, and reviewing standards documentation
  • Manage the lifecycle of technical documentation including draft, review, and publish phases.


Minimum Qualifications  

  • At least 5 years of experience as a technical writer or in related job role
  • Expert ability to analyze complex information and document it in an understandable format
  • Experience in creating documentation for audiences with different levels of technical skill
  • Excellent writing, proofreading, editing, communication, and presentation skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft’s full suite of Office products
  • Superb critical thinking and attention to detail skills
  • Fast-learner and understand complex concepts easily with a keen eye for details
  • Experience in prioritizing and understanding the lifecycle of documentation from pre-release through on-going maintenance
  • Experience creating infographics such as diagrams, screenshots, workflows, graphs, etc.
  • Track record of effective collaboration
  • Desire and ability to innovate and improve upon current processes
  • Excellent work ethic and strong intellectual curiosity
  • Ability to work quickly, efficiently, and multi-task
  • TOGAF certification preferred
