Position Description:

The Domtar paper mill in Nekoosa, Wisconsin is currently looking to hire a full-time Technician to join the Technical Services team. The position provides technical and quality assistance and support to various departments by performing assigned and on-demand testing and sampling throughout the operation. Flexibility to respond to quickly changing needs of production, quality, and environmental depts.

Job Responsibilities

• The MTS Technician position rotates weekly through 3 core jobs: Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), Process, and Quality. The ETP job is scheduled 7 days a week, working ~17 weekends/year. The Process and Quality jobs are scheduled Monday - Friday.
• Complete all environmental testing to ensure Regulatory Compliance.
• Follow the rigorous protocol to maintain the ETP Lab as a Certified Lab.
• Investigate and process customer complaints and follow up with operations.
• Audit production results/actions to ensure quality to our customers - could include auditing data, reports, product.
• Review questionable paper for conformance to standards, complete disposition of paper, and communicate results.
• Perform testing of the pulping and paper making process to enable operations to understand the status of their systems.
• Assist with product and process trials.
• Operate complex laboratory and testing equipment. Maintain, clean, and do calibration check on instruments. Troubleshoot equipment issues; take ownership of instruments.
• Coordinate outside services - could include Equipment Maintenance, Calibration, Special Testing, Print Testing, etc.
• Maintain Test Chemical inventories for operations and the labs. This could include purchasing chemical, mixing chemicals, and tracking inventories.
• Collect samples - could include paper, pulp, liquor, water, sewer, air, etc.
• Prepare and ship samples and hazardous shipments.
• Perform required routine tests and inspections.
• Prepare spreadsheets and enter data, distribute reports, communicate results.
• Analyze data through use of tables, charts, graphs.
• Write clear procedures and instructions for other technicians and crew.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Requirements

• Technical diploma or BS Degree in chemistry or related field (i.e., biology, bio-chem, micro-biology, etc.) that includes scientific laboratory experience or equivalent credited classes in Physical Science that includes scientific laboratory experience or recent experience with scientific laboratory testing and equipment;
• Pulp mill and/or environmental testing experience is considered an asset;
• Analytical and have logical thinking skills;
• Ability to pass the ETP Lab certification;
• Must achieve qualifying test scores in color and math;
• Strong computer skills (Microsoft applications); software database experience (QIS, ParcView, etc.) is an asset but is not required;
• You are known for your organizational skills, ability to prioritize and multitask, and have strong attention to detail;
• You enjoy working in a team and can follow directions;
• You can work with minimal supervision and meet work deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• You possess a valid driver's license.

• You are able to work rotating weekends and overtime.
• Must be physically able to perform job duties including working at heights, in confined spaces, around noise, heat, climb ladders, and outside in all kinds of weather.
