The Department of the Classics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time, renewable, non-tenure track position at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor in the area(s) of Ancient Greek and Latin language s and language pedagogy with a start date of August 16, 2024.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will serve as language program coordinator for the department's Ancient Greek and Latin programs, supervise Latin TAs, liaise with the directors of both the Foreign Language Teacher Education program and the Modern Greek program, and teach two courses per semester. It is anticipated that for AY 2024-25 these courses will be Latin 101 and 102, CLCV 550 ( Introduction to the Teaching of Classics ), and an undergraduate course in translation in an area of interest to the successful candidate.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have a PhD in Classics or a related field by August 1, 2024. C andidates should have a demonstrated research interest in Classics pedagogy and experience teaching Latin and/or ancient Greek at the college level. Preference will be given to candidates with experience coordinating and promoting a language program, certification or licensure in Latin, and/or familiarity with the Standards for Classical Language Learning.

SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

This is a full-time, 9-month appointment, renewable s ubject to enrollments, funding, and positive performance evaluations , non-tenure track position at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor. For a definition of this role, please reference: https://las.illinois.edu/faculty/policy/iii6 .

Starting salary offered is $61,000 per year. The service period is nine months long, corresponding with the academic year, but the salary will be paid out in 12 monthly installments over the one-year period following the start date.
