Position Summary:

The Tax Senior in charge of compliance is responsible for preparing the state and local/indirect tax compliance activities of the organization. This position is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate preparation of all state and local tax/indirect tax returns and supporting schedules as well as providing with assistance on Federal tax compliance as needed. Lastly, this position will respond to all state/local notices or inquiries related to income tax/indirect compliance or tax payments.

This position will be responsible to:

  • Work closely with various internal/external stakeholders by responding to inquiries, questions, and resolving issues related to the preparation of the state and local/indirect tax returns to ensure timely and accurate preparation.
  • Ensure smooth and efficient collaboration with outside consultants on tax compliance, as well as future tax research and planning projects.
  • Prepare all state and local/indirect tax returns and supporting schedules prior to filing. Ensure all required payments and filings are made timely. Prepare/assess estimated tax payments and extensions.
  • Respond to any and all State/local notices or inquiries related to tax compliance or tax payments. Research U.S. tax issues as needed.
  • Assist in any and all state/local tax audits. Provide assistance for internal analysis and support for the audit and appeals process.
  • Assist Sr. Tax Manager with the preparation of Federal workpapers for allocation a shipping income and other State apportionment factors as required for State income tax returns.
  • As required, provide other support for the completion of workpapers for the Federal income tax returns.
  • Miscellaneous related duties or projects as assigned.




    Skill Sets / Education & Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in accounting, corporate tax experience, or related field required. Shipping industry experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of U.S. tax codes
  • Experience filing multistate returns
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the accounting/tax field's concepts and principles
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office portfolio
  • Solid skills with Excel and the ability to work with and manipulate large data sets.
  • Skilled with tax research and analysis.
  • Proficient use of technology including MS Excel required
  • Exceptional analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to understand the details and effectively share with others in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong attention to details and accuracy
  • Ability to perform complex tasks independently, solve problems and achieve results while having multiple priorities
  • Strong skills in tax research
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to meet deadlines

Skill Sets / Education & Experience Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
