SUMMARY

Bering Straits Information Technology LLC, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified System Technologist for Anchorage Alaska. This position will be required to maintain and operate the Alaska Land Mobile Radio System. This is Motorola Smart Zone P25 System. This will require OEM training and Certifications.
Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Repair, preventive maintenance inspections, upgrades and technical support.
  • Document findings and provide findings to the System Management Office.
  • Provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by 2-way radio, mobile phone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Provide an inventory of site equipment to the System Management Office.
  • This position requires 24-hour response and on-call responsibilities.
  • Travel includes using company truck, helicopter, snowmobile, or ATV to access work sites.
  • Travel of distances greater than 200 miles may be required.
  • Tower Rescue and Specialized Fall Protection certification desirable.
  • Load, unload, layout, and prep tools/supplies/equipment/materials needed at each job site.
  • Other duties as assigned by the ALMR Program Manager and BSIT Operations Manager/Arcticom General Manager.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications (applies to both this section and KSAO's)

  • Applicant should have 5 years' experience supporting RF communications systems.
  • Proficient use of Windows applications and Operating Systems.
  • Good driving record with no significant vehicle traffic violations.
  • Already possess or the ability to obtain a valid Alaska driver's license.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through skills. The ability to be at work consistently and predictably.
  • Observance of a level of personal hygiene/appearance that meets generally accepted business standards and expectations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Good working knowledge of communications systems with the ability to interface with the customer's technical people and provide appropriate technical support.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the essential work duties.
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Not afraid of heights and willing to travel.
  • Climbing ability is preferred.
  • Good work ethic and strong team worker
Preferred

  • Experience with Motorola radio systems, P25, SmartZone, and Land Mobile Radio systems.
  • Fundamental knowledge of RF, wired/wireless communications systems, networking equipment, microwave, signals and electronics testing.
  • Experience as an Electronics Technician, System Technologist, or Field Service Technician.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the field.
NECESSARY PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods of time; most of time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.

This position is physically demanding. The System Tech must be able to carry test equipment, tools, and site equipment more than 40 pounds from mode of transportation to the work site. Travel includes the use of company truck, helicopter, snowmobile, or ATV to get to sites. Climbing ladders, antenna towers to heights of 150 feet while wearing bulky safety gear and carrying an equipment bag. Technicians may be required to shovel out sites and wear snowshoes to gain access to work areas.

  • This position is not currently subject to federal or company requirements regarding COVID-19 vaccination or regular testing; but this is subject to change at any time. Employees are expected to comply with all current and future federal and company requirements.
DOT COVERED/SAFETY-SENSITIVE ROLE REQUIREMENT
  • This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation "safety-sensitive" functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Job sites are statewide within Alaska. Areas include office settings, working closely with the Customer, and third-party contractors, to outdoor remote work sites on the ground, rooftops and towers. Outdoor work sites include antenna towers, ridgelines, and villages. Weather conditions can vary significantly from site to site, especially in the winter.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • No supervisory responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
