Summary:

The System Director of Enterprise Patient Access Services is considered a designated system-wide executive position that provides strategic and tactical leadership and direction for all areas within CHRISTUS related to patient access services.The System Director is expected to communicate effectively with senior leadership as well as manage effective collaboration with other leaders at all levels consistently. This position works collaboratively with the ministry and facility Patient Access leadership, Patient Financial Services, Shared Services, HIM, Case Management, Physicians, hospital leadership and management to establish goals and objectives, identify and implement performance improvement actions, and ensure adherence and compliance to CHRISTUS standards, directives, regulatory requirements and other guidance that mandates requirements governing such processes. Areas within the scope of this position will include scheduling, referral management, pre-registration, insurance verification, financial counseling, admissions/registration and Financial Assistance policy & procedure administration along with customer service for patient billing related matters.

This leader will create a strategy and bring to fruition processes that build and sustain enduring consumer relationships by anticipating needs of and serving patients and providers for all access points. Streamlining and promoting the accessibility of care throughout CHRISTUS Health are cornerstones of this roles strategy.They will lead the organizational transition for patient scheduling by providing more consumer centric processes with a focus on enabling patients to access our services by streamlining operations, implementing technology solutions, removing process redundancy, reducing wait times and other inefficiencies.It is an enterprise-wide strategic, technical, and operational leadership role focused on ensuring the effective design and architecture of a health care access center.

This position also works to ensure that financial performance objectives are achieved and directs activities related to implementation of new initiatives to ensure optimal results. The ability to communicate effectively with senior management and other leaders at all levels is critical. The System Director of Enterprise Patient Access is expected to maintain effective professional relationships with other department leadership as appropriate to instruct, share ideas, and implement actions related to the patient access functions. This position is expected to provide the leadership needed to keep internal staff, suppliers, clients, and management informed of departmental activities, needs, problems, recommended solutions, and administrative matters on a regular basis.

Education/Skills:

  • Bachelor degree, business related preferred or equivalent hospital leadership experience required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of patient accounting systems, admitting and registration processes, and billing and collection processes.
  • Must possess a general working knowledge in internal integrity requirements and procedures.
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry financial statistical indicators.
  • Must have broad experience with RCM operations, people leadership, and transition/change management
  • Ability to communicate long term goals and lead leadership team in development and implementation of performance improvement initiatives
  • Ability to execute large scale transition while monitoring ongoing changes for performance impact
  • Ability to earn respect and trust of Regional CFOs and other external customers
  • Tactical execution - oversees the development, deployment and direction of complex programs and processes
  • Project management - administers using tools and processes to identify and communicate project goals, schedules, responsibilities, progress and performance
  • Start-Up - understands complexities and needs to start-up, build and maintain a new business
  • Must possess strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Must have practical knowledge of common office software applications including Power Point, Excel, Word, etc.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years leadership experience within the healthcare industry to include:
  • Inpatient and outpatient scheduling
  • Pre-registration
  • Financial Counseling
  • EPIC
  • Admitting
  • Up front Collections
  • Emergency department access
  • Call Center
  • Consulting experience in areas of business transformation, finance reengineering, shared services, change management and project management a plus

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:

  • CHAM certified desired
