Position Summary

This is a three-year renewable, non-tenure earning faculty position (full-time, 12-month) to begin August 2024, with opportunity to begin June 2024. We seek a collaborative, forward-thinking colleague to teach field integrative seminar and other field-related practice courses; recruit field agencies for the field internship program; match students with field agencies; make liaison placements; and assist in providing orientation, training, and supervision for students, field instructors, and faculty liaisons. In addition to administrative responsibilities in the Field Education Program and teaching, the successful candidate will engage in service to the School, University, and profession. Detailed Position Information
The University of Alabama School of Social Work invites applications for a Field Coordinator at the rank of Instructor. We seek a collaborative, forward-thinking colleague to teach field integrative seminar and other field-related practice courses; recruit field agencies for the field internship program; match students with field agencies; make liaison placements; and assist in providing orientation, training, and supervision for students, field instructors, and faculty liaisons. In addition to administrative responsibilities in the Field Education Program and teaching, the successful candidate will engage in service to the School, University, and profession.

The School of Social Work Field Education Office coordinates approximately 450 student internships in community organizations and engages students simultaneously in both classroom and practice learning during the academic year. Intern sites are located in Alabama, the nation, and abroad. The Field Coordinator, Instructor will be a member of the Field Team and report to the Field Education Director and the Associate Dean. Some travel is required.

Successful candidates must have an MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited institution, at least three years of post-MSW social work experience, and preferably licensed to practice social work at the LCSW level in Alabama or be license-eligible. Previous field education experience and/or classroom teaching experience are expected. Applicants should be eager to work with students in both the undergraduate and master's programs and have interest and expertise in reaching our student body through in-person and online education. In addition, applicants will engage in developing resources and building relationship with agencies needed in field education.

The School of Social Work was established in 1965 by an act of the Alabama Legislature to address the state's critical shortage of and pressing need for professionally trained social workers. Now, it stands as the only one of its kind in the state of Alabama, offering BSW, MSW, DSW, and Ph.D. degrees in social work. Additionally, the college is the only school outside Washington, D.C., with semester-long internship opportunities in the nation's capital.
