Hill's Pet Nutrition invites you to apply for a Supplier Management Quality Specialist position based in our Topeka, KS location.

This position will ensure that processes and procedures are in place to provide assurance that Hill's Raw & Packaging Suppliers, Contract Manufacturers, Co-packers and Blenders align with the Global Quality Standards and relevant regulatory requirements. This individual is also responsible to support management, design, and continuous improvement of the Hill's Enhancement Supplier Management (ESM) Program, coordinating with Colgate ESM global program leaders, Procurement, S&T, manufacturing sites and the corporate quality team

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Continuously improve the ESM Program. Coordinate the bi-annual risk assessments for all Hill's suppliers and contract manufacturers.
  • Lead the execution of the annual master audit plan and share priorities with the 3rd party audit firm (SGS). Ensure that ESM KPIs are met and reported. Coordinate ESM audit report second level review within Hill's and with the Colgate ESM global program leaders.
  • Identify, communicate and resolve business risks identified through supplier/contract manufacturer audits. Ensure the final audit reports are issued by the Audit Leaders within the 30 days, the Forward Action Plans (FAP) submitted and schedule routine meetings with the audited location to drive closure of observations. Manages the scorecard program for all suppliers to be used on the annual ingredient risk assessment.
  • Provides Supplier support globally to investigate quality and food safety issues, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements for ingredients and packages. Participates in cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement based on supplier trend data.
  • FSMA Compliance: with Corporate Quality Food Safety, supports compliance to the Sanitary Transport Rule, maintains the tools to audit truck wash stations, trains auditors, identifies locations to be audited, develops the audit schedule, schedules auditors, coordinates execution of the audit program with procurement, Supply Chain and the external 3rd party audit firm (SGS). Deliver training on applicable sections of the regulation to the transportation companies and coordinates the execution of the training. Ensures Supply Chain Applied Control (SCAC) and Surveillance Audits are performed per the audit schedule.
  • Continuously improve the tools to execute the screening selection of new suppliers and contract manufacturers. Ensures compliance with the applicable regional quality and food safety requirements in relation to the supplier's manufacturing location and the receiving facility. Handles qualified supplier list in SAP and participates on the ECM and HIT teams.
  • Ensure that the number of Hill's qualified auditors is maintained every year to optimally cover the execution of the ESM audit program for suppliers, contract manufacturers, co-packers and warehouse audits. Coordinate auditor rotation assignments to cross functionally train and maintain auditor certifications. Identify areas of opportunities for auditors and provide feedback as part of continuous improvement.
  • Maintains the external 3rd party audit supplier scope of work (SGS) and participates in the revisions of the global contract managed by the Colgate-Palmolive ESM Team.
  • Participate in the Global Compliance Program, supporting quality initiatives (example: corporate SOP periodic review program)

Education/ Experience Requirements

Basic qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering or other related field
  • Minimum 3 years Quality manufacturing experience on a Food or drug/ cGMP environment
  • Solid understanding of Food and Ingredient handling and processing
  • Working knowledge of FDA regulations, Food Safety, cGMPs
  • 2+ years in ingredient manufacturing, processing and distribution and vendor certification
  • 1+ years experience with managing external relationships

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Masters of Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering or other related field with a minimum of 5 years experience in a Quality or Procurement function within the food industry
  • Certification in PCQI, SQF Practitioner
  • Certified Auditor
  • Pest control program management
