Summary Statement

The City of Boise is currently recruiting the Department of Parks and Recreation Summer Playcamp Staff. These positions offer temporary 4-month employment from late May through the beginning of August and are designated At-Will.
The following positions are available:
Playcamp Leader

  • Pays $13/hr
  • Leads and supervises youth for a summer outdoor camp
  • Instructs and facilitates youth in various recreational activities
  • Work is performed independently with minimal supervision
  • Applicants must be 17 years of age or older
Playcamp Supervisor
  • Pays $15/hr
  • Monitors and supervises staff who care for youth during Boise Parks and Recreation outdoor summer camps
  • Instructs and leads youth in various recreational activities
  • Work is performed independently with minimal supervision
  • Applicants must be 19 years of age or older

Playcamp Leader
Supervises youth for an outdoor summer camp located in one of the city's parks; organizes and leads daily games and activities for youth in a safe manner; assists in the creation of weekly play camp curriculums; supervises youths during program hours. (100%)

Playcamp Supervisor
Site supervisor for a summer outdoor play camp located in one of the city's parks. Organizes activities and educational games and develops curriculum. Provides a safe environment for participants and employees. Communicates with parents and supervises play camp participants and staff during program hours. (100%)

Requirements

Universal Requirements
  • Interact with the public and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner
  • Applicants must be able to pass:
    • City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process RegulationDrug Free Workplace: In accordance with the City of Boise Drug-Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety-sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hiring. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre-employment drug test
  • This position has responsibilities that require the person to work with minors or individuals with disabilities
Playcamp Leader
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
  • Previous experience working or performing volunteer work with children
Ability
  • Exercise independent judgment
  • Ability to interact with coworkers and the public in a friendly and professional manner
  • Ability to assist youth in pools on swim days
  • interact with coworkers and the public in a friendly and professional manner
  • Assist youth in swimming pools on swim days, participate in mild to moderate recreational activities/sports
  • Recognize and redirect misbehavior
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
  • Two years' experience volunteering or working with youth as a coach, instructor, teacher's aide, or nanny
  • City of Boise childcare license. Current Certification in CPR and First Aid
Licensing And Other Requirements
  • Pediatric CPR and First Aid certificate

Playcamp Supervisor
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
  • Prior experience working with children
  • Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and discretion
  • Ability to interact with coworkers and the public in a friendly and professional manner
  • Ability to obtain Red Cross CPR & First Aid certification
Knowledge
  • Programs and activities appropriate for youth age 5-12
  • Supervisory principles and practices
Ability
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills
  • Exercise independent judgment
  • Interact with coworkers and the public in a friendly and professional manner
  • Assist youth in swimming pools on swim days
  • Display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public, and other organizations
  • Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance
  • Complete assignments in a timely fashion, understand and comply with all rules, policies, and regulations
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance
  • Perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor, and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
  • Two years of supervisory experience
  • Two years working with youth as an instructor, coach, teacher's aide, or nanny
  • City of Boise daycare license
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. The noise level is frequently loud and occasionally moderate. Work includes the sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, run, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach and grasp. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions.
