This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule

The purpose of the Sr./Principal Customer Requirement Engineer position is to establish from a metallurgical/technical basis, the manufacturing position for all new TimkenSteel products and to ensure successful manufacture of accepted TimkenSteel business with full assurance of product quality. To identify potential issues that could influence price and profitability for all new steel products. To centralize, optimize and finalize business-wide application engineering activities leading to new and re-engineered products for new and existing customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform metallurgical and product analysis of Inquiries/Request for Quotes (RFQ) to establish the company's capability to meet customer's defined requirements.
  • Analyze metallurgical test data (chemistry, hardenability, mechanical properties) to quote customer business and provide technical support to the Front End (Product Management, Sales, Marketing, etc.) of the organization.
  • Conduct metallurgical and product analysis of customer/industry specification to establish the company's ability to meet the defined requirements.
  • Provide organizational support as it pertains to metallurgical capability, specification interpretations, and front end business systems.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts and have to ability to provide technical support to cross-functional continuous improvement efforts.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 4 years of experience OR Masters in Mechanical Engineering with 1 year of experience in steel industry or related
  • Basic product/process knowledge with 1 to 3 years of relevant steel experience
  • A basic understanding and knowledge of the technical and metallurgical aspects of all phases of steel operations from melting through finishing.
  • Solid communication skills due to the high degree of interaction with marketing, operating, scheduling and other technical groups.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the Company's computer information systems due to the information data intensive nature of the position.

  • Strong data analysis skills (e.g. MS Access, JMP, and/or Excel)

Preferred:
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 7 years of experience OR Masters in Metallurgical Engineering with 5 years of experience in steel industry or related
