The Senior Academic Advisor provides an integrated range of academic advisement for prospective, current, and former students within a specified undergraduate academic department or equivalent unit of a college. Assesses academic level, attends to student academic inquiries, assists in the resolution of individual academic problems, and advises on academic program changes. Advises and assists students in the development of academic plans and class schedules. Analyzes applications, transfer evaluations, and transcripts for entry and exit from the university.

Advising and Support of Undergraduate Students: 50%

  • Responsible for regularly communicating with and advising between 300-350 members of the College undergraduate population from acceptance to graduation.
  • Responsible for meeting retention and graduation metrics of the undergraduate A&S students within determined population.
  • Responds to all academic alerts within student population. Provides students with a variety of resources, makes appropriate referrals, and maintains follow up.
  • Responsible for creating a sense of belonging to the College and Major within the determined population.

Programming: 20%
  • Plans and implements regular retention and belonging programs for designated student population - Coffee Chats, Major Mixers, Career Exploration, and Study Skills workshops)
  • Attends other College and University events as assigned.
  • Liaises with Managers of Retention & Persistence and Graduation & Careers to develop and communicate program offering to determined population.

Academic Records and Technical Support: 15%
  • Proficient in the functions of all Student Enrollment Management Systems. Assists students in completing registration, drop/add and withdrawal functions.
  • Participates in the process of secure record keeping for students to include correspondence, registration forms, academic progress posting, grades, alerts, and confidential/official academic documents. Maintains academic integrity and confidentiality when corresponding by email to students, parents, and officials.
  • Processes documents including transfer equivalencies and transient status approval for students including those registering to participate in studies through the University of Miami Study Abroad Program or other institutions.

Professional Development: 10%
  • Remains current with academic requirements and curriculum changes by regularly reviewing the Bulletin. Attends advising workshops and professional conferences.
  • Collaborates with other colleges/schools at the University of Miami on matters pertaining to inter-transferring students' academic records.

Other duties as assigned 5%

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant advising experience. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
