Overview

The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer will be a combination position of a Project Engineer and a Manufacturing Engineer within the Additive Manufacturing Team. This individual will interface with customers, engineering, quality, manufacturing, and operations to bring awarded customer projects from quoted concept to product realization. The Manufacturing Engineer will coordinate all project management activity including, but not limited to pre-production meetings, developing production processes, coordinating customer updates and interactions, facilitating process improvements, and managing their projects from cradle to grave regarding all project management milestones and manufacturing support needs.
Responsibilities

  • Project Management
    • Initiate Project Management processes and tools for all new projects. Projects may be customer awarded projects or internal projects such as capital equipment, facility layouts, process improvements, etc.
    • Manage all milestones and trackers for projects and keep dates and milestones up to date and accurate
    • Communicate project trackers and other communication on a regular basis to internal and external customers
    • Manage all pre-production meetings, manufacturing meetings and customer meetings regarding new projects and customer requests
    • Facilitate all DFAM (Design for Additive Manufacturability) meetings as required by the customer or manufacturing
    • Facilitate a debrief / post-mortem meeting and project close-out after reviewing all process performance to rate and throughput, scrap, material usage, profitability, inspection performance, on-time delivery, etc.
    • Perform end item cost estimation
  • Manufacturing Engineering
    • Develop manufacturing models, prints, routings, and work instruction for all project components and assemblies
    • Work with manufacturing to develop the processes necessary to take the product from quoted design to product realization and shipment for components and assemblies
    • Support the designed processes as needed regarding fixtures, models and drawings, manufacturing research, part handling, etc.
    • Troubleshoot processes with manufacturing that may be problematic or opportunities for improvements. This may be related to scrap, cycle time, throughput, quote vs actual, quality, etc.
    • Resolve non-conformances, coordinate root cause analysis and implementation
    • Train employees on processes that are developed by engineering
    • Work with the Quality Engineering to develop capable and certified processes to support and maintain a continuous flow of quality products to our customer
    • Active participation in OE (Operations Excellence). Origination and assistance with other OE projects
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or other Engineering science
  • Minimum 7 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing setting; including state of the art manufacturing technology/concepts and cost reductions
  • Fluent with a 3D CAD software (i.e. Solidworks, Creo, Unigraphics, etc.)
  • Ability to control and hold effective meetings with an agenda and meeting minutes
  • Ability to understand and interpret GD&T, blueprints and technical documents
  • Knowledge of machining processes (Swiss, Multi-axis Lathes, 5-Axis Milling, EDM, Grinding, inspection methods, and properties of materials
  • Ability to follow through on commitments and to manage, motivate and hold peers accountable to activities and milestones related to the projects being managed
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Advanced computer skills with ERP systems (ProfitKey a plus), Office 365, and other business-related software
  • Strong problem-solving skills, experience with root cause analysis techniques and ability to develop and implement corrective actions
  • Manufacturing process design and validation
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing practices
  • High level of energy, personal accountability and integrity
  • Highly detail oriented; checks own work, keeps accurate records, organizes information effectively
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Project Management and/or Project Engineering experience preferred
  • Experience leading diverse cross-functional teams preferred
  • Knowledge of Additive Manufacturing or 3D Printing
  • Experience with ASTM F3001
  • Familiarity with testing equipment and methods for mechanical strength, chemistry analysis, and microstructure analysis.
  • Engineering experience with medical devices
  • Experience with Design for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM)
  • Team dynamic skills (communication, accountability, decision-making, feedback, meeting management, managing conflict)
  • Continuing Education; including participation in local chapters, associations, and/or organizations
  • Knowledge of statistical software
