The Department of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a full time Sr. Accountant to work in the Medical Campus. The Sr. Accountant will perform accounting duties to include regular journal entries, standard reports, audit related activities and working with other departments within the Miller School of Medicine. The incumbent on this position will also assist on budget preparation and control, and on the daily operation of balancing accounts and financial operations. Incumbent will conduct different reports and analyses concerning budgets as required by management.

  • Directs the preparation of regular and special budget reports for various departments and sub departments
  • Analyzes monthly department budgeting and accounting reports to maintain expenditure controls
  • Provides advice and technical assistance with cost analysis, fiscal allocation and budget preparation
  • Examines budget estimates for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with procedures and regulations
  • Summarizes budgets and submits recommendations for the approval or disapproval of funds requests
  • Reviews operating budgets to analyze trends affecting budget needs
  • Consults with managers to ensure that budget adjustments are made in accordance with program changes
  • Compiles and analyzes accounting records and other data to determine the financial resources required to implement a program
  • Other duties as assigned


MINIMUM QUALICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field.
  • Three years of accounting experience preferably in a healthcare setting
  • CPA preferred
  • Strong accounting skills
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with the skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, establish priorities, set objectives, and achieve stated goals
  • Ability to work as a team or independently
  • Appreciation for organizational subtleties and a high level of discretion
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer and organizational skills
  • Strong customer service focus
  • Ability to learn quickly and has an eagerness to grow
  • Excellent Excel skills required
  • Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
