Overview:

DLBA Naval Architects, a division of Gibbs & Cox, Inc., A Leidos Company is one of the nation's leading independent naval architecture, marine engineering, and design firms. We are seeking an energetic, well-qualified individual for the position of Solution Architect at our Chesapeake, VA office.

Position Description:

Direct and oversee concept, preliminary, and detailed design and analysis of composite, aluminum, and steel vessels designs for (a) recreational vessels, (b) commercial ships, and (c) U.S. Government craft from 20' to 250' feet in length. Identify solutions and develop proposals for challenging opportunities. Provide Subject Matter Expert guidance to team of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.

The ideal candidate is a Naval Architect with extensive small craft design experience. Knowledge and experience with hydrodynamics, stability, structure, propulsion, and auxiliary systems is required, and it is preferred that experience pertain to high performance craft under 250' in length.

Position Responsibilities:

The Solution Architect position is a highly engaged and motivated employee supporting the growth of the DLBA Team through an enterprise mindset, staying connected to the corporate strategy, and leveraging our core competencies. The Solution Architect is expected to provide SME-level support to programs, develop or perform as reviewers in support of large-scale proposal efforts, and be available to help across the company with technical issues. The Solution Architect's focus areas will include shaping markets, developing solutions on opportunities, performing on programs, and helping program teams improve their execution performance when needed. The Solution Architect will actively mentor the DLBA technical team.

Required Qualifications:

  • MSc degree or higher in naval architecture, marine engineering, or other related field
  • 7-20 years of related experience all aspects of design of marine vehicles
  • Candidate must be able to quickly obtain a security clearance
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member
  • Ability to provide technical guidance to DLBA engineering and design staff
  • Excellent MS Office skills, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Proficiency in using industry-standard CAD software, including AutoCAD and Rhino
  • Strong analytical skills, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Professional Engineer's License
  • Demonstrated past success in writing technical proposals and winning engineering design contracts (> $1 Million Value)

Desired Qualifications:
  • PhD in naval architecture, marine engineering, or other related field
  • Project Management Professional certification
  • Experience with the design of small craft
  • Shipyard experience
  • Sea trial experience
  • Personnel supervisory experience
