PCSI is looking for a Site Safety and Health Specialist to support our team at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth! The Site Safety and Health Specialist works in collaboration with the Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to reinforce the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) program and policies for all PCSI employees on site to reduce or eliminate safety risks. This position involves a variety of EH&S duties such as assisting in response to injuries, participating in disaster preparedness, and conducting inspections and safety meetings to mitigate risk.

This is a full-time position based in Portsmouth, VA and works closely with the corporate Safety and Loss Control department.Typical hours are Monday-Friday, 1:00pm-9:30pm but may need to be available weekends and holidays as needed.

Benefits Include:

  • Base pay of $50,000-$53,000 depending upon experience.
  • Annual bonus of up to 6%.
  • 21 days of PTO per year, in addition to all federal holidays.

  • 401k plan with matching on contributions up to 6%.

What You'll Do as Site Safety and Health Specialist:
  • Support all goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the Environmental, Health, & Safety (EH&S) programs in accordance with EM385-1-1 and NMCP contract requirements.
  • Assists with the development, updating, and distribution of EH&S policies as directed by the SSHO.
  • Support safety oversight and inspections of sub-contracted work.
  • Provide coordination and support for accidents and incidents that involved PCSI employees or property.
  • Assist with maintaining employee EH&S training programs and conducts site employee safety training.
  • Conduct monthly safety committee team meetings and documents with meeting minutes.
  • Inventories, inspects and maintains assigned issued safety equipment, as needed by the SSHO.
  • Coordinate the EH&S program with additional special assignments including issues in the prevention, reduction, or elimination of risk of injury or loss of life, and property damage.
  • Review and update PCSI and Sub-Contractor Activity Hazard Assessments (AHA) for new work and/or changes of existing work to identify associated job hazards.
  • Coordinate and develop a site Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and emergency resource program and teams.
  • Assist in organizing and coordinating recovery actions from a disaster or emergency and serves as a liaison with company and government agencies. Coordinates with NMCP on Weather, Fire and EH&S preparedness issues, communicating with SSHO.
  • Work closely with the Corporate Safety and Loss Control Department to include records management, workman's compensation claims and on the job injury reporting and documentation.

What You'll Need to Be Successful:
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Must have 1 year experience preparing and enforcing safety programs on contracts of similar size, or possess a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or safety and health degree.
  • Certification; 30hr Construction OSHA card
  • Experience with Environmental or building maintenance services preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel
  • Expertise and Training in the following areas is preferred:
    • OSHA – Record Keeping, Accident Investigations, Industrial Hygiene Monitoring and Legal Aspects, Crisis Management, Radiation Safety, Emergency Management, OSHA Audit Programs, Safety, Hazardous Communication, Confined Space, Emergency Response, CPR, Asbestos, Mold, Lead

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of housekeeping industry best practices preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and direct multiple work assignments.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and report the work of assigned staff.
  • Knowledge of record keeping, report writing, and supply and inventory practices.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills.
  • Possess analytical skills with the ability to read, interpret, and develop statistical reports and calculations.
  • Ability to effectively write and speak English.
  • Ability to work closely and harmoniously with other employees.
  • Ability to adhere to contract requirements, safety and health regulations, and company policies.

Other Requirements:
  • Ability to pass criminal, drug, and driving screening.
  • Possess valid driver's license and maintain good driving record.
  • Ability to wear appropriate protection to prevent exposure to various dirt, debris, and odors. Subject to hazards associated with working in a health care environment that may cause personal harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, common colds, influenza, dust, odors and elevated noise levels.
  • May be required to work in aseptic areas and have protected exposure to various chemicals and infectious disease.
  • Ability to work any time or day of the week, including weekends and holidays.
  • If required, ability to obtain and maintain security clearance and base access to assigned site(s).
