BASIC FUNCTION:

This position is responsible for assisting in the coordination and inspection of Shuttle Ambassadors work of transporting students in a 28 passenger shuttle bus to and from campus to the College's off-campus apartments, which are approximately 2.6 miles away round trip. This is a working position, perform vehicle inspections as per CHP and ADA regulations; be responsible for providing safety to passengers; provide excellent customer service; be able to make informed and safe decisions independently; and maintain the cleanliness of vehicles.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supports the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management and Capital Projects in coordinating and scheduling the daily work assignments.
  • Inspect work assignments for quality control and completion of tasks. Helps ensure staff remain productive during their shift.
  • Assist in keeping proper records for operations and prepare related reports for supervisor as needed.
  • Assist in ensuring vehicle work orders are completed in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and submit accident reports in supervisor's absence.
  • Mentors and assists all Shuttle Ambassadors with their daily activities.
  • Oversee vehicle maintenance schedule. Maintain inventory of all assigned tools, supplies, and equipment.
  • Check the condition of the vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety and ADA equipment to ensure that everything is in working order.
  • Drive 28 passenger Micro Bird shuttle bus over specified routes or to specified destinations according to time schedules in order to transport passengers, while complying with traffic regulations.
  • Comply with traffic regulations in order to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
  • Pick up and drop off students at regularly scheduled locations, following strict time schedules.
  • Report any bus malfunctions or needed repairs.
  • Follow safety rules as students are boarding and exiting buses, and as they cross streets near bus stops. Assist students in boarding and exiting vehicle including, but not limited to, assisting students with disabilities into vehicle and securing any applicable hardware (i.e. wheel chair).
  • Prepare and submit reports that may include the number of passengers or trips, hours worked, and mileage.
  • Keep the bus exterior and interior clean for passengers.
  • Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
  • Make adjustments to the vehicle as required.
  • Read maps, and follow written and verbal geographic directions.
  • Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations, using telephones or mobile two-way radios.
  • Uphold the College's Standards and Code of Ethics in day-to-day work.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and serve the College and community with a positive attitude.
  • Approach work as a service ambassador to the community.
  • Uphold the College's mission through work performed.
  • Follow proper guidelines and rules as established by the state DMV and federal DOT. This includes, but is not limited to, providing the College notification within 30 days of a conviction for any traffic violation(s) (except parking), immediate notification if your license is suspended, revoked, or cancelled, and annual review of driving record.

Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

EXPERIENCE: Must have at least three (3) years' experience driving passenger transport vehicles. Must have at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.

LICENSES: A valid commercial driver's license is required to drive College-owned vehicles and the ability to be insured under the College's authorized driver's policy. Must have the ability to maintain a commercial driver's license (CDL), Class C, with the necessary endorsement(s) to drive a 28 passenger shuttle bus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb, push, pull, stoop, twist, stretch, and lift up to 25 pounds from the ground to waist level without assistance. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time. Must take and successfully pass a physical agility test and drug test after job offer and prior to hire. May be subject to random and post-accident drug testing.

  • Operate the College's vehicles safely for campus-related work and meet all insurance-related requirements.

OTHER:

REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full time position are 40 hours per week, 5 days per week, on a variable schedule. Overtime, holiday, weekend and evening work hours will be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule. This is a 9-month position.
