Summary:

The Senior Structural Durability Test Engineer is responsible for ensuring quality designs through comprehensive structural testing and validation. Specifically we are looking for an individual that can develop and execute strategies to utilize and elevate our durability validation methodologies. The ideal candidate possesses a passion for leadership, change, teamwork, technical excellence and enthusiasm. The vision for our Lab Test department is to be a highly-credible, influential and world-class operation that consistently delivers for Thermo King!

This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of different components, subsystems, and products in many different project settings. The position requires leadership and technical expertise to develop and execute durability testing programs, drive to root cause for quality and reliability issues, and conduct projects in accordance with the highest quality standards.
Expectations:
  • Full understanding of how to establish structural requirements, create an accelerated test profile, and correlate test results to simulation predictions.
  • Lead test technicians, manage workflow of activities in the lab, and provide status updates.
  • Be a structural SME and grow the test validation capabilities throughout the engineering organization.
  • Drive diligence and collaboration in requirement setting, analysis, DFMEA, testing, and acceptance criteria.
  • Work within and advance standard work.
Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):
  • Develop and execute a strategy for world class testing methodologies to ensure component and systems meet durability requirements.
  • Participate in DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and DVPR's (Design Verification Plan and Report)
  • Standardize test procedures through the development of test guidelines.
  • Ensure alignment with modeling and simulation activities
  • Provide guidance and leadership to designers, lab technicians, and other team members.
  • Prepare schedules and achieve milestones for assigned projects.
  • Communicate regularly on testing status and trajectory.
  • Oversee test execution ensuring data integrity
  • Oversee various sized single axis shake tables and load frames

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least 5 years of relevant product test or engineering work experience is required.
- OR -
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least of 3 years of relevant product test or engienering work experience is required.
Skills and Knowledge:

Required:
  • Strong education and experience with digital signal processing
  • Electromagnetic and hydraulic shaker tables experience
  • Accelerometers, LVDT, strain gauge, and damage analysis - expert level
  • Accelerated drive file creation - random, sine dwell, sine sweep, swept sine on random, time waveform replication
  • Demonstrated success correlating simulation and test results
  • Hands on mechanical aptitude
Preferred:
  • Shaker table fixture design
  • Finite Element Analysis - static, modal, random, transient, thermal
  • Transport HVAC and refrigeration products
  • Composites and plastics durability testing

Tools and Equipment:
  • LMS Scadas, HBM EDAQ, MTS Tensile and torsion load frames, electromagnetic and hydraulic single axis shake tables, LMS Test.Lab,
  • HBM nCode GlyphWorks, SimCenter 3D, MatLab are the types of equipment and software that this role will use on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrated usage of similar equipment and software is required.
