Job Info

At Intuitive, we believe that minimally invasive care is life-enhancing care. Through ingenuity and intelligent technology, we expand the potential of physicians to heal without constraints. Our mission is our guiding force; our culture is the DNA that makes us unique.

As a pioneer in robotic-assisted surgery (RAS), we have been expanding our innovations through technology to help make a difference in the world. For 25 years, human ingenuity has guided our journey to help solve some of healthcare’s complex challenges.

We believe a great idea can come from anywhere—inclusion and mutual respect are vital to our culture. We value character grounded in integrity, a strong capacity to learn, the energy to get things done, and diverse experiences to help us think in new ways. We actively invest in our team members to support their long-term growth so they can continue to advance our mission and strive to achieve their highest potential.

Join a team committed to taking big leaps forward for a global community of healthcare professionals and their patients.

Together, let’s help to advance the world of minimally invasive care.

Primary Function of Position:

Systems Analysts (Robotic Control Engineers) are primarily responsible for generating, debugging, and tuning the key algorithms associated with Intuitive Surgical products and providing technical analytic assistance to other engineering groups. A Systems Analyst on the Ion Endoluminal project, Intuitive’s robotic platform for minimally invasive biopsy in the peripheral lung, will collaborate on next generation designs and algorithms such as gravity compensation of a robotic manipulator, compensation for sensor or actuator non-idealities, and teleoperation of a robotic instrument. In addition, Systems Analysts will investigate and resolve design issues that impact the production process and system performance in the field. The successful candidate will have both the technical depth to identify and resolve complex control algorithm issues and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team to troubleshoot higher level system issues.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Apply control theory to the design and verification of mechatronic and telerobotic systems.
  • Analyze complex electro-mechanical devices for dynamic safety and clinical risk.
  • Facilitate mechanical, hardware, and software integration of new products.
  • Address issues in production and also in the field. Perform analysis, evaluate risk, determine root causes, propose design improvements.
  • Document and pursue intellectual property.
  • Improve group workflow through building tools and teaching others.
  • Support and track system performance as it moves from design to manufacturing.

Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:

  • Minimum PhD (preferred) or MS in robotics-related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in related field.
  • Demonstrate intuitive understanding of mechanical phenomena with ability to do rigorous modeling and analysis.
  • Demonstrate sound engineering judgment and technical skills in problem solving - from improving and optimizing performance levels to identifying issues and driving improvement.
  • Experience in hardware and software integration of complex electromechanical systems and/or serial-arm robot kinematics is preferred.
  • C/C++ and Matlab programming skills. Knowledge of Python is a plus.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and work independently when necessary.
