Position Information: Description

This position is located at the EERC, an international leader in energy and environmental research, conducting projects for clients throughout the United States and the world.     Work in strong collaboration with EERC subject matter experts, principal investigators, and EERC leadership to prepare proposals and to develop and pursue new business opportunities.  Work as part of a diverse multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers to ensure that technical work is successfully completed on-time, on-budget, and within client expectations.Manage one of the analytical research laboratories in the EERC’s Subsurface R&D group that focus on classical and advanced wet-chemistry analyses; petrochemical and geomechanical evaluation of rocks and soils; and mineralogical assessment of materials using x-ray fluorescence (XRF), x-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)Ensure that the laboratory data and results are of excellent quality and integrated with the theoretical, modeling and field components of related EERC research efforts. Ensure the safety of laboratory staff and/or any personnel working in the laboratory; regularly review and update laboratory safety plans.  Work closely with Principal Scientists, project managers and laboratory staff to develop and expand the research-based efforts occurring in the laboratories.Provide technical assistance on projects related to CO2 EOR, CO2 storage, unconventional hydrocarbon recovery, natural resource management, critical resource characterization and recovery, geologic and synthetic materials characterization, and the environmental aspects of energy development.Provide mentoring to staff and/or colleagues, and promote personnel development, education, and training opportunities. Some travel is required.

Minimum Requirements
    Bachelor’s degree in geochemistry, geology, geological engineering, petroleum engineering, reservoir engineering, chemistry, or closely related field.Five years of scientific research experience.Experience working in a laboratory environment, including adherence to and implementation of laboratory safety and QA/QC protocols. Experience characterizing and evaluating subsurface media and/or fluids as they pertain to enhanced oil recovery and/or CO2 storage. Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications
    Advanced degree in geochemistry, geology, geological engineering, petroleum engineering, reservoir engineering, chemistry, or closely related field.6 or more years of scientific research experience. Project management experience.Experience writing proposals for technical work. Experience preparing high-quality technical reports, documents, and proposals and in preparing and delivering technical presentations.Proficiency and experience with one or more of the following: geologic characterization; XRD, XRF or SEM analysis and characterization; laboratory data collection, processing, QA/QC, and analysis; experimental design; applied laboratory research; gas chromatography and hydrocarbon analysis; environmental chemistry; geochemistry; organic petrology.     
Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$78,000 Annual/Full-Time, Benefited, Exempt

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with flexibility to accommodate work activities/work life balance. Travel may be required.
