The Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Center at the University of Virginia's School of Medicine is seeking a Senior Project Manager-Sonographer-Sonographer for the Cardiovascular Translational Research and Imaging Center (CTRIC).

The Senior Project Manager-Sonographer directs echocardiographic imaging services provided by the CTRIC which resides within the SOM and will help direct and carry out imaging protocols in the CTRIC Directors laboratory. The position leads the implementation of clinical (human) and pre-clinical (mostly rodent) imaging; and will help supervise, monitor and support the administration, conduct, and progress of imaging protocols on behalf of the lead investigator at UVA. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring processes are in place to ensure all staff and study personnel in the laboratory and in the CTRIC have the tools they need to conduct the studies according to the clinical protocol, current Good Clinical Practices governing clinical research involving imaging, all applicable regulatory requirements, and sufficient technical knowledge needed to oversee the implementation and analysis of translational and clinical research non-invasive imaging experiments. The Senior Project Manager-Sonographer will work independently with guidance from CTO and CVRC leadership and the lead investigator at the CTRIC.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
Supervisory Activities:
* Manage the clinical trials team that monitors and supports the administration, conduct, and progress of clinical trials involving echocardiographic imaging
* Manage the technical staff that are tasked with pre-clinical non-invasive imaging, with a specific focus on ultrasound imaging.
* Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members, drive task completion.
Policy Development and Compliance:
* Collaborate with team and with CTRIC leadership to develop systems, policies and procedures necessary for the successful management of multicenter clinical trials.
* Routinely evaluate established processes, identify vulnerabilities, and evaluate opportunities for process improvement.
* Interface with and participate in the contracting with partners in industry.
Project Development:
* Participate in the development of proposed clinical trials involving imaging.
* Perform feasibility assessment and prepare budget proposals for prospective trials.
* Develop non-invasive medical imaging protocols and imaging analysis algorithms that will be used in the course of research.
* Collaborate with other team members (e.g., Clinical Trials Office, Cardiovascular Research Center, Berne Immunology Center, and Information Technology Services).
Study Start-up:
* Assist in the development or review of study-related documents, including (but not limited to), study protocol, informed consent template, Study Reference Manual, Case Report Forms, monitoring plan/guidelines, Pharmacy Manual, FDA-related documents Investigational Drugs and Devices (IND/IDE)(IND, IDE).
* Develop image archive algorithms and automated image analysis tools.
* Develop protocol calendar and data forms. Modify forms when necessary as study evolves.
Study Monitoring and Management:
* Review and confirm subject eligibility for study participation. Register and randomize when applicable.
* Monitor study conduct at participating institution, e.g., regulatory documents, informed consent forms, source document verification, data management, drug/device accountability.
* Oversee the conduct of non-invasive imaging studies (echocardiography, vascular ultrasound, myocardial contrast echocardiography, cardiac CT)
* Perform clinical echocardiography or vascular ultrasound in the course of clinical research; perform pre-clinical imaging
* Maintain databases
* Track, measure and report study/site progress to lead and participating Principal Investigators.
* In addition to these duties, other duties may be assigned.

Qualified candidates must have:
Education: A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline is required. Bachelor's Degree in a science-related field is preferred.
Experience: At least seven years of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications:
Education
: Bachelor's Degree in a science-related field is preferred.
Experience: At least five years' experience in clinical cardiovascular imaging or imaging research preferred.
Certification: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) Certification.

Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
