The Middle Market Relationship Manager is a highly productive new business developer, very skilled in negotiation and successful in coaching the team in sales and business development activities. The Team Lead is responsible for the overall management of clients within the team portfolio, and adherence to the LOB strategy.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • The Middle Market Relationship Manager position will generally be located in a market hub or other high business potential area.
  • Develops new and expands existing client relationships by initiating in business development activities, proactively reviewing client's current and changing financial needs, and promoting products and services.
  • Aggressively grows and maintains a profitable book of business (loans and deposits) to achieve individual and market goals.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of client's needs based on the review and analysis of personal and financial data. Analyzes personal and financial data to deepen current, profitable client relationships.
  • Qualifies prospects by collecting and analyzing financial and related data in order to determine the general credit worthiness of the prospect and the merits of the specific loan requests.
  • Prepares or oversees the completion of the loan approval form including careful underwriting of the loan so that the structure meets the needs of the borrower and the bank. Obtains appropriate approval for credit under consideration.
  • Recommends and negotiates the terms under which the credit will be extended to include pricing fees, costs repayment method and schedule, collateral requirements, etc.
  • Responsible for the credit quality which includes past due credits, non performing and credit exceptions of their active portfolio.
  • Actively participates and represents First Financial Bank in various community, civic and professional organizations.
  • Monitors the performance of the borrower over the life of the loan. Be able to recognize developing problems and bringing them to the attention of management. For troubled credits, assist in developing a strategy to return the credit to a pass rating or exit strategy.
  • Well versed in FFB product knowledge.
  • Highly capable of understanding clients' financial goals, provide credible advice and recommend products that fit their holistic needs.
  • Intimately understand clients' business priorities and refer them to other lines of business as appropriate.
  • Establishes sales plans/strategies for assigned territory.
  • Instills/cultivates a sense of urgency and participates in joint client calls and networking programs frequently to observe Relationship Managers in sales environment.
  • Collaborates with assigned bankers, branch managers, retail market leaders, credit/underwriting staff, loan processing and documentation teams and bank senior management.
  • Participates in all bank marketing and sales promotions, contributes to initiatives and programs designed to promote organization's strategic priorities, complies with all bank, loan and regulatory guidelines and policies.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed to Perform Essential Functions of the Job
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relationship/account management experience.
  • Demonstrated sales and negotiating experience with proven, successful results.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups in managing customer relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sales and marketing oriented.
  • Self-motivated with ability to complete projects in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills
  • Credit training, portfolio management, management and training of employees.

Level of Complexity and Scope
  • Strong sales ability and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to compile, analyze and act upon widely diverse points of view and exceptional skill at gaining agreement on issues of the highest level of importance.

Degree of Independence and Decision-Making
  • Works with limited supervision.
  • Makes day-to-day decisions regarding team management, recommends solutions, etc.
  • Collaborates with senior managers / leaders across the organization.
  • Uses specialized expertise to coach and develop other Relationship Managers.
  • Authority and freedom to act independently and make decisions within broad interpretation of laws, regulations and company policies. Such decisions could have a significant short term effect on company financial results and business prospects.

Required Supervisory Responsibilities

    Physical Requirements
    • Occasionally lifts and carries up to 50 lbs.
    • Frequently lifts and carries up to 10 lbs.
    • Frequently sits, stands, walks and drives.
