GHD is hiring! We're currently looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer located from our Farmington Hills, MI office to work on a range of local / international projects for major clients in the industry, together with a team of outstanding leaders and design engineers. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide design work for all aspects of mechanical design, including both process support and building services, and coordinate with all other core disciplines to provide seamless, multi-discipline project delivery. Projects may come from a variety of business sectors including Water/Wastewater, Industrial Facilities, Renewable Energy, Environmental Remediation, Solid Waste Management, Food & Agriculture, etc.

Specific responsibilities will include:

• Analyze client technical specifications and requirements in terms of mechanical engineering principles and technology requirements
• Lead and oversee the preparation of mechanical system designs, and oversee drawing and 3D model preparation
• Generate, review and take responsibility for contract documents and specifications primarily as they relate to mechanical systems.
• Develop specifications for procurement of pumps, piping, compressors, blowers, material handling, and ventilation systems for municipal and industrial facilities
• Application of various ASME codes and API standards in the design of pressure vessels, process tanks, and process piping and pumping systems
• Perform stress analyses of critical piping systems for chemicals, oil & gas, and other industrial facilities
• Interact with core discipline teams (structural, electrical, controls, process), as well as internal and external clients to coordinate and achieve project objectives in a timely manner
• Act as a mentor to team-members (both junior engineers and engineering technicians)
• Ensure technical communication is clear, concise, and well understood by partners across different levels of management (both internal and external clients)
• Communicate and interface regularly with clients as well as vendors and contractors
• Support Project Management in developing proposals including scope development, estimating engineering effort, and providing list of project goals
• Management of multi-disciplinary design teams to deliver studies and projects in the above areas.

For success in this position, you will possess the following skills and qualifications:

• Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred
• US Citizenship
• 8+ years of experience design experience for either public and/or private sector; previous consulting experience highly desired
• Federal (DoD, Civil Agencies) work a plus
• Proficient with REVIT and AutoCAD
• Flexibility and adaptability to handle a wide range of client and project types and requirements
• Strong analytical, mechanical, and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge and understanding of state and national building and energy codes and standards
• Ability travel and work in the field as needed (may include overnight travel)
• Experience managing multiple tasks while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to be able to effectively express technical information to multiple audiences including clients, contractors, and field staff
