Job Description

Primary Function of Position:

Provide leadership, technical and administrative mentoring across interdepartmental boundaries as related to the manufacturing of minimally invasive robotic surgical equipment. This key management role will lead Manufacturing Engineering, Equipment & Test Engineering (AET) and Supplier Engineering functions, with core activities focused on improving internal and external customer satisfaction pertaining to supply continuity, product development, product reliability, manufacturability, capacity, serviceability, and cost for robotic surgical systems, instruments, and accessories. The position provides leadership across a broad range of cross-functional teams including mechanical and electrical engineering, supply chain management, serial production, lead-sigma real-time process monitoring, etc. This is a vital and strategic senior management role in charge of effectively leading a multi-plant serial production environment in support of a rapidly growing medical device business. Proven experience achieving results through others and managing wide range of technical and administrative individuals required. Proven track record in a medium to large-scale medical device manufacturing both in capital equipment and in instruments and accessories, especially catheters is preferable.

Roles & Responsibilities: 

*         Manage manufacturing engineering directors, managers and supervisors across broad range of value added disciplines

*         Continuously improve product quality, cost, and delivery levels

*         Determines long term (multi-year) strategy, tactical and resource plans for the team

*         Manage resources among competing production departments and project manage product transfers to and from US to other global plantsy.

*         Accelerate NPI projects to ensure new products get to market quickly and scale to volume

*         Set standards for productivity and quality improvements by effectively deploying Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma techniques

*         Contribute to supply chain excellence, risk management and supplier development

*         Effectively manage WIP inventory level and the application of related IT tools

*         Continuously monitor manufacturing waste and its elimination

*         Work with EHS Department in order to meet all regulatory compliance requirements across a diverse sector of government agencies

*         Efficiently manage high-complexity small to mid-volume manufacturing assembly line, specifying and/or refining BOMs, work flow processes, and detailed work instructions.

*         Lead initiatives focused on yield improvement, material cost reduction, capacity enhancement, and outsourcing of assemblies.

*         Provide component engineering services to proactively identify and resolve/mitigate material obsolescence or availability issues

*         Identify, design, qualify, document and introduce production assembly/test fixtures.

*         Provide product and process Design for Manufacturability input to enhance manufacturability and servicing.

*         Provide technical support for Material Review Board (MRB) and RMA/Service to ensure discrepant material is processed efficiently.

*         Failure Mode investigation of customer returned (RMA) FRUs, instruments, and accessories.

*         Analyze, trend, and report on RMA investigations - recommend corrective actions.

*         Transfer PCA functional testing to contract manufacturers.

*         Provide technical support for failure analysis and root cause investigation of product failures.

*         Must possess strong communication skills to interface with company executives, technicians, product development, planning, purchasing, regulatory, inspection, customer support and clinical marketing organizations.

*         Coach and develop production and manufacturing engineering organizations in support of 200% year-over-year growth

Qualifications

Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:

*         Minimum BS degree in an engineering discipline, MS degree highly desirable (i.e. EE, ME, CS, CE). APICS certification also highly desired

*         Minimum 15+ years' experience in production, manufacturing engineering/ test engineering role

*         8+ years as a manager of technical personnel in a fast-paced environment

*         Experience in Medical Device Manufacturing (including GMP, MDD, ISO)

*         Prior experience applying automated equipment, complex mechanism manufacturing, or robotics.

*         Experience in Just-In-Time, Demand Flow Technology, and Lean Manufacturing techniques.

*         Proven experience and track record regarding process improvement of complex manufacturing systems

*         Strong technical analytical skills including FMEA, statistical methods, and Six Sigma techniques

*         Excellent communication skills a must
