What you'll do...
Strategic Acumen Possesses knowledge of: Member buying behaviors across channels; channel-specific consumption trends; key member experience touchpoints across channels; member feedback collection techniques. To be able to carry out the following responsibilities: Understands member behavior (for example, demand trends, buying behaviors) across channels and within specific channels. Monitors member feedback, item reviews, and alternate information channels (for example, social media). Applies an understanding to ways of working and plans for improvement. Interprets member data (for example, purchase frequency, NPS, customer satisfaction), shares findings, and develops plans for improvement with cross-functional partners, peers, and leaders. Identifies opportunities to pursue new items and categories and improve member experiences. Researches industry, macro-economic trends (for example, commodity prices, unemployment rates, purchasing power) and changes in competitor strategies and offerings. Communicates findings and insights to cross-functional partners, peers, and leaders. Weigh the pros and cons of channel strategies for items within an assigned assortment. Reviews the financial implications (for example, shipping and packaging costs) of item channel availability. Maintains open lines of communication with peers and cross-functional partners to understand opportunities, coordinate strategic decisions, and simplify ways of working. Digital Literacy and Analytics Possesses knowledge of: Technologies, techniques, and digital practices for the evaluation of business performance data; analysis of business performance using advanced statistical methods to justify and drive future business planning decisions. To be able to carry out the following responsibilities: Reviews merchandise and sales data and metrics (for example, item/category/department sales, turns, instock) by leveraging appropriate tools, dashboards, and data sources in order to extract relevant information. Interprets and summarizes pertinent information. Provides recommendations on the item decision process. Collects and reviews industry and competitor data (for example, competitor sales results, trade surveys, data firm reports) and shares findings and insights with cross-functional partners, peers, and leaders. Explores alternative and emerging data sources (for example, search engine results, external research publications). Provides recommendations to cross-functional partners, peers, and leaders on applicability of emerging data sources. Leverages data analysis tools to basic data sets, performs basic analysis, derives insights, and creates or interprets basic reports. Supply Chain and Operations Possesses knowledge of: Common activities and tasks performed in the Supply Chain and Operations functions; general compliance, regulatory, and safety guidelines; process flows between functions. To be able to carry out the following responsibilities: Coordinates with partners to identify inefficiencies related to Supply Chain and Operations (for example, supplier service, delivery schedules, inventory levels/flow packaging, merchandise display standards, item placement, other merchandise-related factors). Maintains open lines of communication with supplier and vendor partners to understand Supply Chain processes and review performance. Collaborates with Supply Chain partners to understand network capacity, transportation considerations, and other logistics complications. Maintains open lines of communication with Operations and Supply Chain functional partners to understand process changes and opportunities for improvement. Follows up with partners to understand shrink and waste resulting from merchandise and supplier issues. Monitors item quality feedback and identifies quality issue trends. Follows up with Operational partners on the impact of item placement and plan-o-grams on the associate and member experience. Monitors the impacts of actions taken to improve Supply Chain and Operations efficiencies on the profit-and-loss statement. Financial Management Possesses knowledge of: Principles and methodology of financial management; tools and processes needed to manage financial assets and liabilities throughout the organization. To be able to carry out the following responsibilities: Understands the elements of profit and loss statements. Derives insights and researches opportunities to take corrective actions. Supports the development of business cases and recommendations to deliver projected return on investment or cost savings. Conducts hindsight analysis as applicable. Reviews in-season reporting and financial results for key seasonal events. Coordinates with cross-functional partners to determine financial plans and inventory purchase amounts. Strategic Negotiations Possesses knowledge of: Successful negotiation concepts and techniques; active listening and probing techniques; approaches to overcome resistance. To be able to carry out the following responsibilities: Understands and employs company policies and practices and applicable laws and regulations for negotiating. Utilizes techniques for establishing rapport and building trust. Negotiations favorable results with suppliers in basic negotiations. Understands the impacts of terms of the negotiation (for example, cost of goods, volume, payment) on the overall value derived for the company. Understands the value that needs to be achieved for the company in negotiations. Protects company positions while demonstrating a willingness to create value for other party. Researches the capabilities of suppliers in order to understand the limits of what is possible within the boundaries of negotiations. Maintains open lines of communication with peers with a shared supplier base to ensure information is shared and prior experiences with suppliers are disseminated. Assortment Strategy and Management Possesses knowledge of: Organizational assortment strategies; warehouse model principles; market and trend analysis techniques. To be able to carry out the following responsibilities: Shares knowledge and insights with peers. Analyzes the effectiveness of assortment decisions, evaluates the viability of products and categories, and develops actionable plans to optimize item and assortment performance while considering financial and customer loyalty impacts. Analyzes and develops insights on assortment performance by channel while assessing benefits and tradeoffs. Shares assortment information and insights with cross-functional partners to drive synergies and enable cohesive member experiences. Creates hypotheses of changes to assortment to predict transferability of sales. Leverages online channels to test additions to assortment to drive incremental sales and member excitement. Item Merchandising Possesses knowledge of: Organizational private brand strategies; product guidelines and quality metrics; distribution channels; packaging strategy and guidelines; product quality standards. To be able to carry out the following responsibilities: Analyzes the role of private brands and national brands across items in the category/department assortment and provides recommendations for partners and leaders. Decides role of items (for example, repeat purchases, seasonal buys, special buys, loss leaders) within the assortment. Identifies ways to drive value for members while creating value for the organization. Provides recommendations to cross-functional partners and leaders. Shares knowledge with peers. Reviews and provides input on product quality guidelines, researches and identifies post-launch quality issues, solicits member feedback, and provides feedback on packaging guidelines. Reviews item placement and plan-o-grams in order to provide feedback on potential issues or opportunities to improve space utilization. Solicits feedback from Operations partners on item placement. Demonstrates up-to-date expertise and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices; supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer and business needs; and building commitment for perspectives and rationales. Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders; identifying business needs; determining and carrying out necessary processes and practices; monitoring progress and results; recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; and adapting to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities.
