The Senior Accountant is a key member of the finance team reporting directly to Plant Controller. The Senior Accountant is responsible for the more complex activities associated with maintaining ledger accounts, cost accounting, and for developing financial statements and reports. He/she supports the business by maintaining and reporting accurate and timely financial information. He/she ensures appropriate controls and compliance processes are followed. The Senior Accountant also provides accounting services for plant by analyzing, monitoring, and providing monthly cost updates.

  • Ensures that all accounting entries are timely, accurate, and comply with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Assists in completing the monthly close process and ensuring balance sheet entries are reconciled, reviewed, and have appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Prepares and reviews other consolidated statements and various other accounting statements and reports.
  • Responsible for setting up the standard costs for bill of material (BOM), maintenance and updating of items monthly.
  • Performs monthly cost rolls for finished products manufactured and purchased along with cost change analysis.
  • Assists in the preparation of the appropriate quarterly and annual reporting packages.
  • Analyzes financial reports and records, making recommendations relative to the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures.
  • Analyzes actual costs versus standard costs and prepares and presents reports of variances.
  • Performs intercompany accounting procedures by calculating intercompany pricing, creating invoices for intercompany charges, and recording expenditures and product received
  • Updates costs for Materials, Ingredients, Packaging (MIP) and Purchase for Resale (PFR) items.
  • Prepares estimates of new or proposed product costs working closely with procurement team and plant administration team
  • Compiles cost data for preparation of operating budgets
  • Monthly accruals for milk
  • Perform variance analysis such as Purchase Price to Cost variance, cost revaluation, Invoice to PO price variances and work order variances.
  • Monitor purchase price variances and provide monthly analysis of production variances
  • Lead the activities or coordinate efforts required for external and internal audits
  • Gather system reports and information from appropriate groups needed to complete governmental reporting and/or other reports (e.g., Market Administrator)
  • Prepare, analyze, and track monthly inventory reserves, material savings, inventory forecast, and standard margin variances
  • Seek continuous improvement in all areas related to cost accounting and financial reporting as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience
  • Manufacturing experience preferred
  • CPA certification preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), balance sheet and income statement methods, internal controls, and other areas related to financial reporting requirements
  • Ability to use financial tools
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to use systematic processes
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all departments, management levels within the company, and external stakeholders
  • Able to work independently on projects; able to take ownership for assigned work and see through to completion
  • Skilled in organization, prioritization, and attention to detail
