Job Description

EAG Eurofins is a scientific services company offering a breadth of expertise and a diversity of analytical techniques to help our clients understand the physical and chemical properties of their materials.

Join our multi-disciplinary team as an AFM Scientist!

Responsible for operating analytical AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy) and OP (Optical Profilometry) instrumentation. This position requires a solid technical foundation in materials science, analytical chemistry, physics or engineering.

A typical day in the AFM group:

  • Determine the best analytical methodsto meet client needs
  • Prepareand runsamples to acquire new data. Collaboratewith our sample preparation team for samples that need cross-sectioning
  • Reporting and processacquired data
  • Planupcoming analyses

  • In parallel:
  • Internal group meetings to plan overall use ofinstruments and approaches on multi-disciplinary work
  • Customer meetings to discuss prior reports orfuture analyses
  • Partner with EAG Sales team (which may also include customers) to discuss analyses and how we can help solve customers' needs

  • Longer-term projects may include:
  • Developing new analysis methods for new materials
  • Producing marketing materials or writing a paper
  • Working with our support team or vendors on fine tuning our instruments
  • Learning another adjacent technique or other training goals

  • All of these activities require extensive communications, cooperation and collaboration with your co-workers and colleagues. You'll be learning to do a lot of things at once to keep multiple projects all moving forward. It's a fast-moving job and we all like to share the load so helping other people in the team, and also being helped by them is part of what we do, in order to collectively help our clients meet their goals.

    Qualifications

    The ideal candidate:
    • BS, MS or PhD degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics or Engineering
    • 1+years of industrial experience designing analytical protocols, operating AFM analytical instrumentation, interpreting AFM analytical data, applying an understanding of the data to solve specific problems, writing scientific reports that include methodology, conclusions and supporting data
    • Some familiarity and experience with advanced AFM is a strong preference, particularly SCM, SSRM, sMIM, PFQNM etc.
    • Experience with adjacent techniques such as nanoindentation is also helpful

    Additional Information

    Compensation Range:$106,000-$119,000/year
