Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

This postition serves a a resource with the Cardiac Diagnostic Lab assisting with TEEs and Stress Tests. The shifts are flexibleMon-Fri from 7:00am-5:00pm, with a minimum requirement of one shift permonth.

The Staff Nurse-PRN provides clinical care and uses coordination skills for every patient served. This includes understanding of the expected patients served in the unit'(s) nursing care is delivered using the Eskenazi Health Model of Care-Synergy, the ability to coordinate with the patient and family/loved ones and other healthcare disciplines to ensure care is appropriate to meet patient care needs. This position works on a PRN basis, and may be required to commit to a minimum number of work hours per pay period.

The Eskenazi Health Cardiac Diagnostics Lab, located on the first floor of Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital, is an ICAEL-accredited laboratory providing noninvasive testing services. The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging equipment, including three-dimensional imaging. Available diagnostic tests include:

  • Cardiac treadmill stress tests and pharmacologic stress tests with echo and nuclear imaging
  • Echocardiograms (including pediatric)
  • Holter monitors and event recorders
  • Tilt table tests
  • Transesophageal echocardiograms, including 3D imaging

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care which reflects nursing intervention, patient response to care provided, patient needs, problems, capabilities, limitations, and progress toward goals and ensures coordination to the next level of care.
  • Teaches patient/significant other appropriate health information in a timely manner and shares written informational material as evidenced by feedback and observation; documentation is reflected in the medical record.
  • Demonstrates ability to handle emergency situations in a prompt, precise, and professional manner.
  • Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs, and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
  • Demonstrates understanding and supports the role of shared governance at the unit & hospital- wide level to help engage the staff and unit to achieve success in unit-based and organizational goals.

Service:

This encompasses all service to all: patients, families, staff, physicians, students and other departments to meet department and organizational goals.
  • Demonstrates the understanding of the customer service concept and how to apply to professional practice.
  • Provides personal and individualized patient care to provide comfort and well-being for the patient acknowledging physiological, psychological, spiritual, and cultural needs.
  • Integrates cultural/population-specific diversity needs into patient care.
  • Rounds consistently within the shift to all patients or areas covered to assess care and service; utilizes the Care Rounding process.
  • Provides timely feedback on any customer service issue to the right person/department & participates objectively in the review of customer service issues and service recovery in a timely fashion with the unit/department leadership.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines to ensure appropriate transition planning.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills in working with staff, patients/families, physicians, other departments and external contacts; includes verbal and non-verbal skills.

Quality:

Encompasses understanding of regulatory readiness and quality improvement efforts for the units/departments providing service.
  • Maintains safe patient care and advocates for patient safety through participation in Care Rounds with patients and families throughout the shift care is delivered.
  • Participates in identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and in performance improvement activities using evidence-based practice.

Job Requirements

Minimum of 1 year working clinical nursing experience as an RN.Current Indiana license as a Registered Nurse or eligibility for license.
  • Current BLS certification; other certifications may be required in specific units of practice
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited college or university. Must obtain a BSN within 5 years of hire date for all ASN graduates hired on or after 3/14/16.
