Zurich Risk Engineers travel to customer locations to perform risk assessments and advise customers in a wide array of industries. Risk Engineering takes an approach that emphasizes consulting and prevention of losses using engineering approaches and expertise rather than just focusing on checklists and inspections for regulatory compliance.

Zurich's Middle Market Risk Engineering team of specialists provide detailed risk assessments of our customers' facilities focusing on Casualty (health and safety) as well as Property (fire protection, special hazards, natural catastrophe exposures), and the like to ultimately help protect our customers and Zurich from losses.

Depending on your current level of experience with Property exposures this role provides the opportunity for training to start you on an exciting and challenging career path that will help you capitalize on your technical education working as part of a global insurance leader. As a Zurich Risk Engineer, you will have the opportunity to think and act on your feet, work in a flexible and fast paced environment, travel to customer locations, perform assessments to analyze and evaluate exposures, and help customers understand and manage their risk.  Working with a powerful global service network of over 900 specialists with in-depth technical knowledge and industry segment expertise, you will have access to leading edge risk management information, tools, and training. Additionally, you will collaborate with underwriting teams to help with risk selection and retention. 

This Middle Market Property and Casualty Risk Engineering role is a work from home role preferably within Washington or Oregon. Will also consider California or Colorado. Travel is estimated at 25-50%. A company car is provided.

    

Because this position includes a company car, final candidates will be subject to a Motor Vehicle Record check. 

The role will be filled at the Risk Engineering Representative or Risk Engineering Consultant level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant's experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

Basic Qualifications:

Risk Engineering Representative:

  • Bachelors Degree and 2 or more years of experience in the Risk Management And Property & Casualty Safety area
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 4 or more years of experience in the Risk Management And Property & Casualty Safety area

OR

Risk Engineering Consultant:

  • Bachelors Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area
    OR
  • Zurich Certified Apprentice, including an Associates degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area
    AND
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Relevant experience in the assessment of risk, based on what is required by LOB specific competency standards

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Fire Science, Fire Protection, Chemical, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, Health and Safety, or related degree
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and working with electronic data aggregation systems
  • Industry experience in manufacturing, life science, environmental heath & safety, fire protection systems, or technology sectors within a safety role
  • Knowledgeable in safety management programs that control workplace hazards, educate employees, and promote safety awareness/accountability
  • Able to conduct safety training with large and small groups at all business levels
  • Strong communication and results-oriented consultative skills
  • Outstanding scheduling and collaboration skills
  • High learning agility
  • Analytical aptitude
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) designations

Compensation for roles at Zurich varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable range of compensation for roles. For additional information about our Total Rewards, click here. Other rewards may include short term incentive bonuses and merit increases. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill, and education. The salary provided is a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled. The combined salary range for this position is $ $57,500.00 - $119,200.00. The starting salary range for the Risk Engineering Representative is $ $57,500.00 - $94,300.00 and for the Risk Engineering Consultant is $ $72,800.00 - $119,200.00.
