The Residential Community Educator (RCE) for Family and Graduate Student Housing (FGSH) is responsible for the day-to-day management of six apartment complexes within FGSH. This position assists and educates residents (individuals, couples, and families) in their acculturation to the USA and academic life at Oklahoma State University. The RCE hires, supervises, and evaluates two Graduate Assistants and six Apartment Assistants by providing guidance, vision and development for staff that work with a diverse population of families/children/graduate students. This includes being available after hours to assist with crisis response. Additionally, this includes performing periodic on-call coverage, which includes some weekends and University holidays. The Community Relations RCE is responsible for interpreting and enforcing FGSH policies and procedures and neighborhood development. This includes continuously assessing the needs and wants of FGSH residents to focus on retention and recruitment issues. The RCE assists with maintaining a budget for programming, maintaining records, submitting work order requests, assisting with check-ins/outs as needed. The RCE also assists in conducting primary changes, lease extensions, apartment transfers, policy educational lessons, and apartment inspections. Other responsibilities include addressing policy-related issues in an appropriate manner, communicating with Iba Hall/Facilities Management/FGSH, maintaining current rosters and move-in reports. Conducting office hours, one-on-ones and administrative hearings as needed. The RCE assists in maintaining departmental regulations and participating in community programming such as supervising neighborhood gatherings.

This is typically 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday; however, regular evening events and some weekend work may lead to adjusting schedule. This position requires the RCE to live on campus. This position also requires staff to stay over some breaks.

This is a live-on position that will serve in the on-call rotation. This person often serves as the first responder to incidents involving living in FGSH.

Must be able to climb stairs and travel across campus for meetings and events.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Human Sciences, or a related field.

One year of experience working with diverse populations of individuals, couples, children and families. This position is selected on the basis of sensitivity to and interest in people; objectively and respect for the worth and dignity of the individual; degrees of empathy; willingness to be flexible; critical thinking skills; ability to pay attention to detail while managing and planning; the ability to handle autonomy and make decisions; his/her experiences and/or education in related fields; and his/her success within the academic community.

Requires a valid driver's license

Familiarity with lesson planning, classroom management, child development, programs and community development.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Business Management, Business Administration, Higher Education College Student Personnel. 

Two years of experience working with diverse populations of individuals, couples, children and families.
