Occupational Summary:
The Fouda laboratory in the Duke Human Vaccine Institute and Department of Pediatrics is focused on understanding infant immune responses in the setting of infection and vaccination. Her current work focuses on HIV mother to child transmission as well as pediatric immune responses to SARS-CoV-2.

Work duties:
The candidate will work closely with other technicians and senior researchers, and is expected to independently perform daily activities of the laboratory, which might include:

  • Virus neutralization assays
  • Multiplex binding assays
  • Plasmid transfection
  • Protein and virus production
  • Flow cytometry
  • Cell culture
  • Prepare culture media, chemicals, reagents and solutions
  • Maintain inventory of material, supplies and equipment for performance of duties; clean and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Develop charts and graphs for scientific publications
  • Maintain database and organize/prepare scientific data for analysis by the principal investigator
  • Assist with performing small and short-term basic experiments and completing individual parts of an overall large experiment/project

Required Qualifications at this Level

  • Education/Training: Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.
  • Experience: None required above education/training requirement. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
