This position will use advanced metabolic flux analysis, physiological, and biochemical approaches to study the metabolism of plants during growth-defense trade-offs. This position will be based in the lab of Berkley Walker but be co-advised with Gregg Howe. The postdoc will use our unique isotope labeling approach and gas exchange instruments to investigate metabolic fluxes during growth-defense transitions. This position is ideal for an individual with a background in plant-insect interactions and a desire to gain experience in central metabolism and photosynthesis, or visa-versa. The project will be performed in the MSU-DOE Plant Research Laboratory starting March 1st for an initial one-year appointment, with possibility of extensions.

Required DegreeDoctorate -Biochemistry, Plant Biology, Molecular Biology
Minimum RequirementsExperience in GC-MS and/or LC-MS/MS metabolomic approaches and methods development AND/OR experience with plant responses to biotic stresses such as insect herbivory.
Desired QualificationsThe ideal applicant would have additional experience in gas exchange measurements. Comfort with Matlab and knowledge of plant-biotic interactions would also be beneficial.
