Job Description

The Research Assistant (cell biology) will join our team using cell culture systems to understand neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and search for drugs to treat these diseases. We are looking for someone to support these efforts by maintaining cell cultures and performing assays and is eager to expand their scientific skillsets.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to

  • Maintain cell cultures, including iPSC-derived motor neurons. Any necessary training will be provided.
  • Perform cell and biochemistry assays, including qPCR, immunofluorescence, Western Blotting and microscopy.
  • Prepare solutions and cell culture media.
  • Work in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • With supervision, processing the data generated in these assays and reporting the findings.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:
  • Candidates should have a B.S. or M.S degree in biological sciences (Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Immunology, Biochemistry, or similar field) with at least 1 year of relevant laboratory experience.

Key Skills:
  • Demonstrated experience of mammalian cell culture techniques and working with aseptic technique, experience with iPSCs is a plus but not required.
  • Competence in molecular biology laboratory methods, procedures, and techniques, e.g. qPCR, Western Blotting, immunofluorescence, and microscopy.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of biology lab safety requirements.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States.
