About the Position:

The Research Assistant will perform essential tasks for an NIH-funded study in the dynamic, team-oriented lab under the supervision of the principal investigator. Housed in the Department of Psychology, the lab aims to understand how couples' relationships are linked to the activity of their cardiovascular and immune systems.

Specifically, the RA will help to develop study materials; run study visits in person with appropriate PPE and COVID-19 safety protocols; oversee and participate in data processing (e.g., transcription, behavioral coding, data entry and cleaning); spearhead and organize participant recruitment and scheduling efforts; help to train and oversee research assistants; screen participants for eligibility; interface with participants in a professional manner and respond to their questions and concerns in a timely way.

Essential Functions:

  • Data collection and processing. Help prepare study materials; run study visits with great attention to detail and process data after it has been collected.
  • Participant interaction and management. Spearhead and organize participant recruitment efforts, screen participants for eligibility, interface with participants in a professional manner and respond to their questions and concerns in a timely way.
  • Assist with training and supervision of undergraduate research students and other lab members in routine tasks.
  • Maintain lab equipment, order supplies and materials.
  • Assist with scientific and financial record-keeping and reporting.
  • Participate in regular lab and staff meetings.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work is required.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's is required. A bachelor's degree in Psychology or Behavioral Neuroscience is preferred.

Experience in a psychology or behavior neuroscience research lab is strongly preferred. Experience as part of a student school experience is acceptable.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of how a behavioral research lab runs is preferred; ability to apply scientific reasoning for decision-making is strongly preferred; knowledge of database management is preferred.

Proficiency in Word and Outlook are required; use of database and statistical software (e.g., Excel, SPSS or equivalent, Access) is preferred.

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
