Job Information

Job Summary:

The Behavioral Insights and Parenting (BIP) Lab at the University of Chicago is conducting a large-scale research study with 750+ families in Illinois. As part of the project, the receptive language and curiosity skills of children aged 3-5 will be assessed at two points over an eight-month period. We seek individuals who can administer language and curiosity assessments to preschool age children in English and Spanish online. All responsibilities, except for a paid in-person training session, are remote.

The study begins in March 2023 will conclude in November 2023. Each of the two assessment periods will last for 4-6 weeks. For this reason, we seek candidates who are available 20, 30 or 40 hours per week for stretches of 4-6 weeks in March and April, as well as in October and November. While it is not a requirement that assessors work in both assessment periods, strong preference will be given to candidates who commit to working in both periods.

The first assessment point (4-6 weeks) is scheduled to begin mid-March 2023. Background checks and other paperwork required for interaction with young children must be completed no later than February 24, 2023. Must be available for in-person training in February or March 2023. Note that individuals will be hired on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in training on the administration of the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT-5).
  • Demonstrate mastery of testing materials and administration before administering the assessments.
  • Complete required paperwork, background checks, and medical immunizations required by the State of Illinois.
  • Protect research participant confidentiality and data in accordance with BIP Lab protocol and The University of Chicago Institutional Review Board guidelines.
  • Represent the BIP Lab in interacting with parents and children.
  • Work with BIP Lab research staff to coordinate assessment schedules.
  • Assist in helping to refine assessment protocol in communicating observations and experiences in the field.

Competencies:
  • High-level reading, writing, and speaking proficiency in both English and Spanish languages.
