About the Department:

The mission of the SMU Health Service is to provide quality, caring, cost effective and convenient ambulatory healthcare and health education services in association with other university departments that promote healthy lifestyles and enhance academic productivity leading to satisfying and rewarding college experiences.

About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

This is a professional position providing direct patient care to college students and performing general nursing duties for the Health Center. The nurse is expected to follow standards of care for nursing and collaborate closely with attending physicians and other Health Center staff in carrying out responsibilities. Must maintain confidentiality and health and safety guidelines at all times. Expected to promote the patient's well-being by providing high quality nursing care through good clinical skills and a compassionate, caring and patient-centered attitude.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides direct care to patients and assists physicians.
  • Documents data and assessments of patients in electronic health records and collaborates findings with attending physician(s).
  • Follows up patient care with students/parents.
  • Administers injections/immunizations.
  • Other general routine nursing duties, room preparation, stocking supplies, etc. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of nursing is required.

A minimum of three years clinical nurse experience is required, preferably in a physician office or outpatient clinic. A current State of Texas registered nurse license and current CPR certification are required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with other health care professionals (psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, physicians, laboratory, x-ray, pharmacy). Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Candidate must possess a customer service aptitude and good bedside manner.

Candidate must demonstrate good clinical skills and infection control.

Candidate must be able to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic health records.

Candidate knowledge of Point n Click is a plus.
