Darling Ingredients is seeking an experienced Regional Human Resource Manager to join our team at our regional office location in Winchester, VA. This is an essential role that will have the responsibility to develop, manage and provide support for programs in the functional areas of human resources including recruiting, retention, and organizational development with a focus on employees within assigned business unit. Additionally, this position will provide backup support to Corporate HR and the entire organization from an HR perspective.

Job Summary:

To develop, manage and provide support for programs in the functional areas of human resources including recruiting, retention, and organizational development with a focus on employees within assigned business unit. Additionally, this position will provide backup support to Corporate HR and the entire organization from an HR perspective.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the hiring managers to understand their human resource related challenges and work with them to develop and implement solutions that better meet their needs and remain in alignment with the expectations of the overall organization regarding human resource policies and procedures.
  • Work with hiring managers to continually upgrade the organization with improved recruiting and selection processes that provide better pools of qualified candidates from which hiring managers may choose new employees.
  • Coordinate employment selection process and its components to ensure adherence to all equal employment opportunity legislation, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other government compliance requirements.
  • Implement retention strategies to assist hiring managers in improving turnover statistics. Be a resource for obtaining better turnover data and assist with the development of solutions to the reasons for turnover.
  • Work to improve and maintain a positive work climate. Facilitate better communications with employees and management. Identify issues that affect employees and assist with their resolution.
  • Investigate employee relations issues, including; conducting interviews, analyzing data, proposing disciplinary action based on investigation findings, and producing completed investigation documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures, provide interpretation as needed;
  • Work with hiring managers to respond to and effectively manage unemployment claims, workers' comp claims and other legal issues.
  • Ensure that the location orientation program is being done and serving the needs of all new employees.
  • Provide oversight to the processing of hourly payroll, focusing on compliance with regulations and company policy.
  • Continue to improve and upgrade human resource functions through knowledge, experience, and "best practice" philosophy.
  • Travels to other locations within the assigned region as necessary to support initiatives or address employee concerns and issues.
  • Train division hiring managers on ATS to ensure compliance measures are met with regard to Affirmative Action.
  • Develop and maintain a common safety culture by assuring the identification and control of workplace hazards for all employees to reduce recordable injuries.
  • Expected to perform other duties as assigned.
Principle Accountabilities:
  • Processing/approving position requisitions, including position justification analysis.
  • Managing the employment process, offer letters, background checks and drugs screens for compliance with regulations and company policy.
  • Maintenance/monitoring of headcount plan/budget.
  • Reducing turnover by understanding current reality and implementing effective retention strategies to hit goals.
  • Ensuring training metrics are achieved including compliance with required training.
  • Identifying training solutions and working with corporate to delivery those solutions.
  • Ensuring the employment selection process results in the hiring of talent and building bench strength.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or related field;
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of human resource management experience, recruiting experience required;
  • PHR certification required;
  • Thorough knowledge of equal employment opportunity laws, ADA, and other government compliance regulations that affect job recruitment;
  • Excellent interviewing and general communications and writing skills;
  • Experience in administering human resource programs including but not limited to recruiting, retention and training and development; and
  • Excellent personal computer skills in a networked environment, Microsoft products and SAP experience preferred.
Physical Demands:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is regularly required to stand and walk.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
Work Environment:
  • Typical office/plant environment.
  • The noise level is usually moderate.
  • Out of town travel will be required up to 50%.
  • Must be willing to have a presence on all shifts and must be willing to work weekends as the business requires.
