Position Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to complement formal Prototype and Design education by providing developmental opportunities in an advanced, industrial manufacturing environment. Co-ops typically will experience the problem analysis, design, manufacturing and assembly phases for projects. Co-ops have an opportunity to apply their technical training in an industrial environment working as an integral part of a manufacturing team during planning, manufacturing, documentation, and assembly of ongoing projects. Co-ops will develop a broad understanding of the manufacturing practices necessary to support the manufacture and assembly of high speed automated equipment.

Position Description:
This position manufactures and assembles products that meet or exceed customer quality expectations at the lowest total delivered cost. Working under the direction of experienced tradespeople, the co-op is expected to demonstrate growth in their knowledge and skill of the Rapid Prototype trade. As part of the overall experience, co-ops may be exposed to and work in other areas of our business including but not limited to engineering design, fabrication, assembly, additive manufacturing, warehouse/logistics, planning and other administrative processes.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Safety: Work safely and demonstrate safety as a value. Identify any potential safety hazard noted within the work environment that poses a risk to the employee and/or coworkers. Take immediate corrective action on reported safety hazards as required. Follow all safety rules and embrace the Kimberly-Clark's Safety Obligations. Comply with safety and regulatory training. Maintain a clean and orderly work environment, eliminating clutter.
  • Quality: Adhere to all quality policies, objectives, procedures, work instructions and standards. Strive to meet or exceed the needs of all customer. Ability to use precision measuring devices to verify parts and equipment are to specifications.
  • Customer Service: Provide confidential high quality products and services at competitive prices. Treat customers, visitors, and team members with dignity and respect. Establish and maintain good customer relationships while driving solutions to meet business needs. Develop and maintain a strong spirit of partnership with both internal and external customers.
  • Technical Knowledge: Develop knowledge and skills in Rapid Prototype, metal fabrication, and assembly operations. Demonstrate a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Problem Solving: Seek, recognize, define and solve problems/opportunities to achieve unit objectives. Suggest and assist implementing changes in operational practices and procedures to improve department effectiveness
  • Communications: Communicate fully with superiors, subordinates and others who have need to know.
  • Teamwork: Perform routine tasks with no or limited supervision and perform moderately complex tasks with direction from experienced coworker. Works as a member of a team to support various tasks and workload

Additional Skills: While it is important that co-ops gain skills and experience in their field of choice, additional skills and knowledge need to be developed in all areas listed below for their functions:

  • Manage self in accordance with accepted organizational behaviors (KC One Behaviors)
  • Assimilate, understand, and communicate technical information
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work on a tight timeline
  • Effectively use engineering work systems e.g. computers, CAD)
  • Hands on experience
  • Integration of components
  • Material and fabrication techniques
  • Equipment maintenance
  • Converting systems - pneumatics, electrical, and mechanical
  • K-C design standards

Qualifications
Candidates should be currently enrolled in a Prototype and Design program at a post-secondary institution or a shop program at a secondary school. This position requires strong mathematical and computer skills along with high mechanical aptitude and strong problem solving capabilities. Previous Rapid Prototype experience is a plus but not required.

Schedule

10 - 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday with flexible hours to accommodate school schedule. Overtime may be available on an occasional basis to meet business demands.
